There are a lot of Judge Dredd stories out there. Vampires, Zombies and everything in between have featured in this characters story-lines but it was the original 2000AD judge Dredd that was the best. Cold. authoritative, merciful, cruel and no nonsense the Judge Dredd of my childhood was as good as a lawman could get and, thankfully Matt Smith feels the same. He's part of the 2000AD and it shows - he gets it. He knows that though Dredd is the glue that holds everything together it is the story and the people of Mega-city One that keeps the readers reading. A paranormal mystery that Dredd tackles with a scowl on his face, a mean looking chopper and dedication to the law - The good Judge at his best. Mega-city One also gets the recognition that it deserves. Massive and sprawling it's a crimes ridden metropolis that is enormous and that crams it citizens into confined spaces and visually it is stunning. If you have never read a Judge Dredd book this is the place to start and if you can remember the good Judge from the beginning - as I can- than you won't be disappointed with this reintroduction.
