Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

True to her surname, Judy Moody is not amused. With summer approaching, Mom and Dad take wings to California and leave Judy and brother Stink with Aunt "Awful" Opal. Worse yet, Judy's best friends are also nowhere in sight. Then, just when "BORING!" seems to be the only word on the agenda, Judy plunges into adventures including, but distinctly not limited to a tightrope walking competition, a Scream Monster ride, a cemetery stakeout, a runaway ice cream truck, and a treasure hunt. (P.S. On June 1st, Judy Moody & The NOT Bummer Summer materializes as a blockbuster film, starring Heather Graham, Jordana Beatty, and Parris Mosteller. This 128-page paperback original is based on the screenplay and contains photos from the movie.)

Children's Literature - Lisette Baez
"Summer" is the greatest word any child can hear. It means school's over and the fun can begin. That is exactly what Judy Moody is counting on, until she experiences one disappointment after another. Her parents have decided to take a vacation without Judy or her brother Stink, and their Aunt Opal is coming to babysit. Judy doesn't remember her dad's sister, Aunt Opal, but is sure it is going to be the worst summer ever. As if that isn't enough, two of Judy's closest friends will be away for the summer too. Judy quickly learns Aunt Opal is not how she imagined. Aunt Opal arrives with bright blue boots, an armful of bangle bracelets and long, bright red hair. Judy Moody, Frank Pearl, Aunt Opal and Stink dive headfirst into an action-packed summer filled with adventure, mystery and excitement. From Bigfoot to dares to Scream Monster and a nighttime stakeout, Judy's story compels the reader completely from page to page. Young readers can continue their reading adventures with Judy and Stink in the many other books by Megan McDonald. Reviewer: Lisette Baez

Gr 3–5—Summer is finally here and Judy Moody is bummed. Not only are her parents headed to California without her and her little brother Stink, they are leaving them in the care of her awful Aunt Opal. On top of that, two of her best friends are off for daring adventures, while Judy is sure she's going to have the "boringest" summer ever. Judy comes up with a daring, THRILL-a-delic plan to save her summer including tightrope walking, a midnight stakeout, and chasing after Bigfoot in a runaway ice-cream truck. But after all that, and a surprise poop picnic, will she still be able to earn enough "thrill points" to beat her friends? Based on the screenplay by Megan McDonald and Kathy Waugh (Candlewick, 2011), both fans of the series and those new to it will enjoy this fast-paced listen. Barbara Rosenblat's narration adds to the fun.—Amy Joslyn, Fairport Public Library, NY

    nice

Well written, funny, children's book. I think ages 7-11 will like it.Even some adults! I know it sounds silly, but I read Judy Moody books and Im a mom! These books make reading fun again for children. I love these books and my children do too. They are so into these books. I would reccommend any Judy Moody book to any child (or adult). Megan McDonald knows what children like to read. These books even got me laughing. All Judy Moody books are great and funny. And there is a movie now for Judy Moody..... Its on Netflix. Thank you!
