Editorial Reviews

It is not necessary to take the Marquis seriously as a philosopher of total freedom, as some do, in order to relish the imagination and talent that went into gilding the nuggets of naughtiness contained here.
Sade was one of themost radical minds of Western history, one that touched, with an astonishing fusion of madness and cold rationality, on some of the most central aspects of psychic life....He remains a great, horrifying, but also vastly illuminating figure.
NY Times Book Review
The Marquis is a missionary. He has written a new religion. Juliette is one of the holy books.

    A Classic

This is one of my favorite books of all times. The Marquis never bores you in this book. This book is basically an encyclopedia of erotic monsters and perversions. My favorite character in the book is Minski 'The Hermit of Appenies' he is a Russian cannibal that lives alone in a fortified castle deep in a forest by a pond. He reminded of a mix between the witch in 'Hansel and Gretal' and a more demonic Hannibal Lecter. But there other characters that are just like Minski-such as Cordelli the Italian necrophiliac who abuses his own daughters corpse and another one of my other favorite characters is Madame Durand. She is a sorceress and poisoner. She has the power to raise the dead form the grave and cause disesaes to entine citys. This book is nothing like a Harry Potter book if thats what your thinking. This book is laced with such taboos as feces-eating, bondage, murders of familys, arsons on hospitals and in one scene in the book there is an orgy with an entire family and also an orgy with an entire asylum of loonys. Its a great read. One of Marquis De Sade's best.
