This is an incredible book, one that includes a wealth of valuable and solid information. The authors are not stingy with their resources and information, as I suspect some other authors are. Aside from the resource value, I enjoyed the book's conversational, down-to-earth tone, as well as the attractive layout. I haven't read their Complete Guide to Self Publishing yet, but I intend to.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

This is the best book I've read on marketing/publicity, and I've read them all. Marilyn and Tom do an excellent job of spelling out that it's the author's job to sell the book and showing how to do just that. Their contention that the author should think of marketing before even writing the book is crucial. I wish I'd studied this book before I wrote my last ones, and I intend to incorporate its easy-to-follow tips in the promotion plan of every new book I write. Was this review helpful? I have read numerous books related to writing through the years, and the Rosses by far offer the best information for writers, who are trying to decipher what route to take in this industry. I did not think they could out-do themselves after their book, 'The Complete Guide to Self-Publishing,' but they did! They give so much help and information in both books that the reader is just left amazed. And what is so incredibly wonderful is that you know that the Rosses want to not only help you, but to see you succeed in this market. A complete novice could follow their guidelines and be successful! What an absolutely fantastic gift to writers! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. When you publish with an online publisher, you have to do your own book marketing. I thought I could never do that, but when I found Jump Start Your Book Sales, I realized I could indeed and jumped right in! Now I love being in control of what gets done for my books. The Rosses provide millions of ideas I'd never have thought of, and I'm working my way through them all! When I meet other authors, I tell them they must get this book. In my opinion, Jump Start Your Book Sales is the bible of book marketing! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

Strictly for anyone who wants to avoid the pain and dissapointment of firsthand experience. As a busy medical doctor, I don't have time to experiment with what dosn't work. The Aladins cave of ideas, insider info, web sites sprinkled with a healthy dose of practical wisdom is outstanding. You have no choice but to succeed if you follow even a fraction of the clever ideas layed out between the covers of 'Jump Start you book sales!!!'Was this review helpful? Jump Start Your Book Sales delivers what it promises on every page. This outstanding book is jammed with creative tips, websites, techniques and strategies for getting your book to the reading public and keeping it there. As a small press publisher, I have a library of excellent resources, but none of them compare to this book for getting me back into the energized, productive frame of mind necessary to keep generating book sales. Tom and Marilyn Ross teach you how to maximize your book sales using traditional and nontraditional markets. If you are an author, publisher, or publicist, you will refer to this book time and time again for ideas as well as inspiration! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Tom and Marilyn Ross are real people with a passion to help authors and small publishers realize their dreams of writing and selling books. Their unique wisdom, combined with this passion and incredible energy, have given us a guide book that is second to none. As an author (From Depression To Wholeness: The Anatomy of Healing) and publisher, I found this book to be the best investment I've ever made. If you're even thinking about a book of your own, buy this book and never let it go. Most importantly, do what it says. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I have purchased many 'how to' writing and publishing books over the years. Each one is a bit different from the others and each has a few good ideas that don't appear in any of the others. Recently I found one that, had I found it first, could have saved me the price of all the others. 'Jump Start Your Book Sales', by Marilyn and Tom Ross, is by far the most interesting and valuable 'How To' book I have been able to find on the writing/ publishing industry. It has an absolutely eldless supply of valuable information, tips and techniques that apply to both large and small publishers. It describes clearly how the various parts of the writing, publishing, advertising and marketing arms of the industry interact, with literally dozen of ways an author can make them all work to advantage. I found myself tagging pages with post-it's, then finally went back and srarted putting notes on paper. With 'The Recovery' an adventure novel, at the 2nd Galley Proof stage I could not have found a more valuable reference anywhere. I'm going to donate most of my other 'How To' author books and magazines to the local library, and keep 'Jump Start Your Book Sales' on the front shelf! Was this review helpful? As many writers have, I've had to self publish a book (do publishers *ever* really look at stuff from a nobody?? I'm doubtful) and while the book isn't flying off the shelves, it is crawling. It was important to me, therefore, to figure out a way to get the book out of the bookstores and into other venues, but I didn't know how. Or where. No clue. And I was loathe to buy more how-to books from the writing section of our local bookstore. I did, however, take a chance on 'Jump Start Your Book Sales' and it's been heaven-sent! I do NOT like to highlight books because I find I'm spending more time worrying about getting the top off and on the pen and doing the highlighting than I am in learning from the book. THIS book however is now striped. It is just jammed with information and I'm availing myself of ALL of it. I'm especially taken w/all the websites and email addresses available. The Rosses did an incredible and unbelievable job on this book--for ONCE you can buy a book that makes promises and keeps them. It is more helpful than I can say--I'm amazed and delighted and already I've increased sales of my self published book. I think ALL writers, self published or not, can gain and gain from reading this book. (I'm even getting on the radio about my book because of the suggestions within the pages.) I can't say enough about it so writers out there---BUY IT AND USE IT!! You will never regret purchasing it. I do not think there is another book out there that is or will ever be as endlessly helpful as this one is. BUY IT NOW. And no, I am not Marilyn Ross's mother. Was this review helpful?
