The illustrations on the cover don't promise too much, but Jumpin Jazz Kids ends up quite the swinging success, thanks of course to the contributions of its musical guests, starring Al Jarreau, Hubert Laws, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Ably narrated by James Murray, the disc alternates tracks of story narratives with songs; while the lyrics aren't worthy of Gershwin or Porter, Jarreau and Bridgewater especially show off their performing chops with verve.
