A GRAMMY Nominee for Best Children’s Album for 2012 and a Parents’ Choice Gold Award winner, JumpinJazz Kids — A Swinging Jungle Tale is an imagination celebration that combines classic storytelling with fun, pop– influenced jazz songs performed by world–renowned jazz artists Al Jarreau, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Hubert Laws and more.

Backed by a jazz quartet and a full symphony orchestra, A Swinging Jungle Tale follows the magical adventures of a seven year–old girl named Claire and her stuffed animal friends as they go searching for her Grandpa’s “lost story” and find the secret to creativity that lies within us all — our imagination!

Available on CD and a special edition read–a–long CD/Mini– book, A Swinging Jungle Tale is also a critically–acclaimed, interactive family concert in the tradition of Peter and the Wolf and the Sorcerers’ Apprentice where audience participation is strongly encouraged, as each song has a special “animal dance” that the whole family — young and old — can imitate to become part of the show.

The music and story for A Swinging Jungle Tale was created by 5–time Heartland Emmy Award–winning composer/producer Mark Oblinger, symphonic arranger/composer and veteran jazz pianist Steve Barta and author/educator Linda Lawson.
All Music Guide - John Bush
The illustrations on the cover don't promise too much, but Jumpin Jazz Kids ends up quite the swinging success, thanks of course to the contributions of its musical guests, starring Al Jarreau, Hubert Laws, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Ably narrated by James Murray, the disc alternates tracks of story narratives with songs; while the lyrics aren't worthy of Gershwin or Porter, Jarreau and Bridgewater especially show off their performing chops with verve.
