Overview

Jumping off the Porch: A True Fiction

"Jumping off the porch": an Afro-Centric colloquialism used to denote a point and/or time in which a child is mature enough to leave the front porch- i.e., "To leave from under his/her mother's watchful eyes, and is now allowed to play, unhindered with the older children." More commonly used to denote a rite of passage (if you will) when a youth crosses the threshold of childhood or puberty; the blinders of innocence have been taken off or removed, and he/she passes into adulthood.

In the spring of 1980-I "Jumped off of the porch."I was six (6) years old, and this is my story: "A True Fiction!"
