Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
K-Gr 3-Among early chapter books, Junie B. Jones has become a popular series for those children who are ready to move beyond picture books. Stories in this collection by Barbara Park include Junie B. Jones and the Mushy Gushy Valentine (Random, 1999); Junie B. Jones Is (Almost) a Flower Girl (Random, 1999); Junie B. Jones Has a Peep in Her Pocket (Random, 2000); Junie B. Jones Is Captain Field Day (Random, 2001). Actress Lana Quintal does a superb job of portraying kindergartener Junie B. Jones as a slightly obnoxious little girl who has a vivid imagination and a great sense of self-importance. Adults may find the voice irritating, but children will share her sense of character from it. In these books, Junie B. Jones receives a valentine from a secret admirer who turns out to be a boy she doesn't like, invites herself to be her aunt's flower girl, is terrified the rooster will peck her head to a point when the class goes to the farm, and learns lessons about teamwork on field day as class team captain. Although Junie B. is a kindergartener, children in the early elementary grades enjoy hearing about her antics. This audiobook can be used by individual students for listening or guided reading and with small groups.-Ann Elders, Mark Twain Elementary School, Federal Way, WA Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
