    Watch out for the captain!!

Junie B. Jones is Captain Field Day is an exciting book. It's a good adventure. I like the whole book. What happens in the book is that Junie B. Jones gets picked for field day. Guess what? You are just going to have to find the rest out by yourself!

I see nothing wrong with these books.

I see alot of people saying that it is not very educational and that it will produce bad grammar habits. But what people are not understanding is that these books are not fo litle children (like ages 2-5) they are for the older grades. Barbra Park (author of the series) knows very well that if these books get into the hands of little children, that they are going to pick up the bad habits and they are going to speak terribly and write terribly. I have two children. A ten year old and a five year old. But the section in our bookshelf that contains all the junie b jones books is not for my five year old. My ten year old enjoys reading these books. I hope i am not offending anyone, but this is my opinion

Very Cute, But Not Very Educational

I love the Junie B. Jones series because they are very cute and teach valuable lessons. However, they use absolutely terrible grammar, and children might develop these bad habits in their own writing after reading these multiple times.

    I Also Recommend:

Does nothing children's literature should do

My 6 year old niece is an advanced reader, and this was the most challenging book on her summer reading list, though for her, it was not a challenge. (That is not the book's fault, but her school's, for requiring her to read books she read in pre-K and not allowing her to stray from the list.) my niece and I both found the book pretty appalling on multiple levels.

First, the language. My niece's comment by the second chapter was "This girl's kinda dumb. She can't spell and she can't talk right." This is actually an authorial problem - in attempting to render the protagonist's incoherent, ungrammatical rants into dialogue, she completely missed one of the prime points of children's literature: to expose the young reader to the written language in clear, correct and entertaining prose. This book's language is none of those.

Secondly, my niece found the protagonist entirely unsympathetic. Admittedly, my niece is very clever and finds disruptions of her real classroom distracting and annoying, so I can't say I am surprised that she despised the obviously undiagnosed ADHD sufferer that is Junie. However, the behavior that Junie models is problematic at best. She abuses her sibling, ignores her parents and calls them names, has an inflated sense of herself, is disruptive in her classroom, and has clearly earned her classmates' enmity through previous antics. The clinical psychologist in me says this child needs Ritalin. She is definitely not a model for children to follow.

Third, the protagonist seems incapable of learning from her bratty behavior and its consequences. The lesson in this book seemed to be about cooperation and sharing, but in the end, Junie doesn't comprehend. Nor does the reader learn vicariously from Junie's bad example. The lesson my niece took away was "beware the brat".

I found the book awful, to the point where these books are permanently off my niece's reading list. My niece's criticism was more pointed - she stuffed her paper copy of the book down the garbage disposal.

    Funny Books

I buy this series of books for our 7 year old Granddaughter - she LOVES these books & wants to collect the whole series. SO every couple of weeks we buy her one or two of these books - Sarah thinks they are funny - enjoys laughting as well as her receiving a learning experience.

Bad thing is she loves this series so much she won't read any of the other books we've purchased for her over the past few weeks.

    Junie B Jones

Junie B. Jones is written by Barbara Park. I like this book because it¿s funny and strange. When she is mad she says the word ¿stupid.¿ It is about each child was getting a card and all of the children needed to stay but Junie B. Jones was captain on Field Day. I do not like how she jokes with people. My favorite chapter is Junie B. Jones.

    A reviewer

Well I would reccomend this book for begginer chapter book readers. It was very good it talked about what was happening in Junie B.'s first grade life. I thought it was so cute when she always called her teacher Mrs. It has a sense of humor. It also gets competitive a times.

Junie B. learns to be a good friend!

You should read Captain Field day because Room 9 learns to be better sports. Junie B. gives her cape to William because he won the chin up contest and she didn't even ask for it back all day! William was the hero and almost got to ride on everyone's shoulders, but read the book to find out what happens!
