Gr 6-9An excellent addition to the limited number of reference books on Canada and its provinces and territories. The tone is academic, yet it is not out of reach for student researchers. Arranged alphabetically, each article begins with an overview that includes such information as the origins of the province or territory's name, the flag, and the coat of arms. The scope of the detailed entries is extensive, presenting information under 40 numbered headings, such as topography, environmental protection, industry, and public finance. A lot of the facts are repeated in each chapter, particularly in the sections on history, government, and political parties, but this would not be a problem for researchers who are only interested in one area. The numerous black-and-white photographs are appropriately placed. For each province or territory, there is a clear gray-tone map, a population chart, and a chronological list of the premiers or territorial leaders.Lucinda Lockwood, Thomas Haney Secondary School, Maple Ridge, BC
