Overview

Mariah Garnet didn't mean any harm when she sent her older sister's picture to Sgt. Sol Standish—her pen-pal stationed in the Middle East—and forgot to mention that at 18 she's on a fast track to becoming a surgeon like her dad.

Then Sol is badly wounded in combat, and there's no time to straighten things out before Mariah grants him his last wish—her hand in marriage—over the phone.

Sol didn't expect to live, or return home with a battered body and defeated spirit, to face a new bride who isn't at all what he'd expected.

Now Mariah must convince him that she's much more than the little lies that landed his ring on her finger.

I found myself skimming just to get through this story. I did not care for the male lead in the story. He seemed like a jerk and the female lead was weak. Not my kind of romance.

Excellent story! Mariah and Sol's story was romantic with a happy ending. Sol's injuries after the war was not "male model perfect" which, I felt added to making the story more enjoyable. Their bedroom relationship is mentioned, described but not x-rated descriptive. I am uncertain why this book received a negative review. I recommend the reader use own judgment to read this book, will not be disppointed.  **vrnb**

Was an ok story for free. I did not care for the male lead in the story. He seemed like a jerk and the female lead was weak. Not my kind of romance. The story line and writing seemed choppy at times, and I got tired of Mariah's worrying over her husband's ex-girlfriend.

I don't understand all the previous negative reviews! I really enjoyed the story of the "wedding " on his deathbed in the middle of a war!!" And all about after he came home!

I truly enjoyed this book! Even though it was over 20 years old, the story still works (enjoyed the author's note reminding us how things used to be before cell phones and internet!) Loved the characters and how they interacted esp. Sol's views on trust and marriage. His rules for marital fighting should be handed out at every wedding ceremony! I will look at other books by this author.

I really enjoyed Mariah and Sol's story. Both character's have their own demons to conquer. This 151 page story is full of emotion and passion. Hard to put down.

JUST A LITTLE JAILBAIT This ended better than it does in real life. Buyer Beware! Okay seriously I really enjoyed this story. People tend to forget that a hero hurt is still a hero. And one of the hardest battles you'll fight is against your own self doubt and fear of failure. This was really sweet.

I liked that these two had some real issues to work through. It was a good clean romance. The love scenes werent to detailed in the act. I liked his view of marriage and was willing to kerp to it. Truthfulness was a great message throughout the story. Highly recommend

I really enjoyed the concept behind this book, wounded soldier marrying his pen pal while literally on his deathbed, its morbid and romantic all at the same time. I don't agree with other reviewers about Sol's character, I don't think he was domineering at all, mad at the world because of his injuries is understandable but he wasn't a mean or inconsiderate man. Mariah's character on the other hand was so very annoying, I wanted to stop reading the book plenty of times because her incessant whining was just grating on my nerves, but then I had to remind myself that she is basically still just a teenager married to man almost 11 years her senior, she's young and has the mentality of a young person despite her 'genius' mind. I think this book would have been better if she wasn't so young and if the author wrote less about Mariah's whining and added more action hence the scenes between her and Desiree and Sol and Desiree, those were just mentioned in passing, but readers enjoy a good jealous scene between couples and their exes....the story could have flowed better. FYI: This book is NOT all about sex, there are like two or three written scenes, very under detailed and the rest of the sex is implied not written. Also this story is not a standalone, it is part of a series, though I don't think you need to read all the books to understand them. SR

I was so glad when this book was over. 2 stars, one for free and one because it was a stand alone book. The rest was bad. It was mostly about sex and male domination. AD
