Overview

#1 New York Times Bestselling Author, Barbara Freethy, takes us back to the beach in an emotional love story between two best friends who have been separated for a very long time.

Alexa Parker and Braden Elliott fell in love when they were twelve years old. On a summer day, while searching for sea glass on the beaches of Washington State, they discovered an unusually shaped blue bottle. The ever-imaginative Alexa declared it a genie's bottle. Popping the cork, they were surprised by a rogue wave that sprayed them with a fine, cool mist. Closing their eyes, they each made a wish...

Before their love had a chance to grow, life, family and tragedy separated the two best friends. Now fifteen years later, Alexa returns to Sand Harbor after her aunt is injured in a mysterious break-in at her antique store. Braden is also back, but he's not the innocent boy Alexa remembers. His military service has left him with physical and emotional scars.

Can the sweet love of youth be recaptured by two now cynical souls? Can solving the mystery of the past bring them to a new future? Or will it take a wish, maybe two...

I read this book in one day!! I loved Braden and Alexa's romance. The sleepy beach town this story unravels in made me think of so many great summer memories I had myself. The book kept me guessing the entire time and I was so pleased with how it all played out. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. I can't wait to read more of Barbara Freethy's books, I'm hooked!

I love the stories that Freethy tells, but believe me, epublishing should not be an excuse for poor editing. In this book, Freethy can't seem to remember whether Alexa's father, Rob, is Phoebe's brother or her son and the confusion continues when she can't seem to decide whether Alexa is Phoebe's niece or granddaughter. It makes an otherwise good story most annoying. There are many other mechanics issues with the text as well, and they detract from the quality of the work. I simply wish that the author had taken more care. Her loyal readers deserve at least that.

Fun story! I really enjoyed the beach setting. I wanted to go and live there! The main characters Alexa and Braden were well developed. I liked how they were shaped by their pasts and their families. Barbara Freethy always delivers a complex story and this one was very good. I read it in one day so it was a fast read.

Great story! I loved the reunion of Alexa and Braden - their first summer love was depicted so beautifully, and I loved watching them find their way back to each other. A little mystery kept the pages turning, but it was the characters that I loved. Another great book!

Loved it! Fun, romantic and touching love story. I love this theme of wishes. Alexa and Braden fall for each other as kids but life tears them apart. They meet years later and their story felt very real to me. It wasn't just about the past it was about figuring out who they were now. This one was really good. I enjoyed A SECRET WISH as well. The books share the theme of wishes but are very different and stand on their own. Highly recommended!

It might not be Summer yet but oh boy did this book make me really feel like it was! I loved this story set in what seems to be the cutest beach town. The characters are wonderful, I felt like I could really relate to Alexa and her family troubles. Of course I was rooting for her and Braden the whole time. I also loved the mystery that went on throughout the book, I kept thinking it was one person and then another...and then ANOTHER! So many twists and turns I was able to read this book in only a matter of days. I highly recommend it!

I've read all of Barbara Freethy's books and I was not disappointed with this second book in her wish series. The book really makes you believe in second chances and is such a "feel good" read.

As usual, the story was engaging- I didn't want to put it down! But there were a few too many grammatical errors- sometimes entire words were missing!

This 495 page romance mystery was a fast read, due in part to about 75 pages being an excerpt for another book and book information. It was very well edited. This alone made it worth what I paid for it. It took me about five hours to read it on a very stormy day in January. It held my interest nicely. I really liked the characters and the setting. I have read a lot of books about Washington State and the north western sea board lately and have determined from this book to take my next gad about there. Freethy made it sound so enticing. There was not an over whelming cast of characters, so I got to know and like all of them ( except the father) there was an old murder mystery. No blood, guts and gore. There is some sex, but not the boil your eyes kind, and some light humor. Which I would have liked more of. The conclusion was very nicely done. I would like to read a sequal to this book. I think there is one in the works. I think a sixteen girl could read this book and enjoy it, if the amount of pages did not scare her off. My mom would have grounded me for a month, if I had a book with the word SEX in it, at 16. The times really do change. I recommend this book for those who enjoy a lighter romance and mystery novel. It was very well done. AD

Loved that it contained my favorite characteristics -- love, sex, mystery and forgiveness.
ekaterin More than 1 year ago
There's really not much going on here. A cheap mystery that gets solved by a letter that explains everything (Come on!) and two people that really don't have much problem getting together. There is supposed to be all this conflict with Braden's army career and ex-wife, but it all gets resolved far too easily. I loved Barbara Freethy's Summer Secrets, but this came nowhere close to the quality of that story.
