Overview

Gus was a lucky dog. Injured and abandoned, he could have become another of the 7 million animals euthanized every year. Then Stephanie Williams entered the picture. A successful journalist, she had been diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer at the age of 30. On medical leave and living alone, she wanted a warm four-legged companion. When she saw Gus's soulful eyes and goofy grin, it was love at first sight: she would rescue him, and he would return the favor.
Just Gus is about how much one dog did to make a dying woman happy — giving tireless love, comfort, and support. This extraordinary story shows how one dog brought joy and hope to a woman's last ...

Just Gus: A Rescued Dog and the Woman He Loved

I just picked up this book last week and before getting home (while my wife was driving) I finished the book. Normally I get car sick while trying to read but I just could not stop turning the pages. This book is short, but its message of love and friendship are very powerful. The events of a sick woman and a rescued dog who come to live together for a short but memorable time will leave you feeling very touched. The words were from Laurie Williams and the treasure of photos were by Roslyn Banish. As for Gus... his cute face says it all on the front cover. A must for all animal lovers.

    Beautiful Story

This is an AMAZING STORY of the love between a woman and the dog she saved. They needed each other and their love for each other proved that love conquers all. I didn't know Stephanie or Gus but after reading this book I felt like I knew them. This is a true story of the human spirit and a must read for everybody, especially animal lovers.

Just Gus: A Rescued Dog and the Woman He Loved

In a word: inspiring. The love and support shared between this rescued dog and a young woman who is battling cancer in pursuit of her dream is incredible. The photos are wonderful and move the story along nicely as well. You can't help but feel motivated to live every day more passionately after reading this story. Makes you want to adopt a rescue dog as well.

    Wowzers

Just Gus is an AMAZING story. The bond between the dog and his owner really comes alives through the text and beautiful photos. The correlation between their stories is uncanny¿a rescue dog and a cancer patient/author. They had so much in common and so much to give each other. The beautiful moments captured in the photos really bring the story to life. Really it just touched me on so many levels it is hard to put into words.

Just Gus: A Rescued Dog and the Woman He Loved

Great stuff. Truly moving and further evidence of truth trumping fiction. The author employs a charming, plain-language sensitivity to relate a story of desperation, rescue, reciprocal love, overcoming, loss, and moving on. Gus's appeal is immediate and Stephanie's heroic battle with cancer in headlong pursuit of her dream of publishing a novel is deeply affecting. This work is a labor of love, one that reflects a pure and uninhibited affection and longing for the characters portrayed. And the photos strike a perfect balance with the prose to capture the tenor of love between dog and woman. I care about these characters. I cared about them as i read the book. I still care about them now. Treat yourself to this deeply human story. Keep the tissue box close at hand and find a springboard in the message of the tale: live strong.
