Overview

A timeless children's classic by best-selling author, Max Lucado, that reinforces the love of a parent.

There are certain words that every child longs to hear . . . affirmation of unconditional love, promises of support, and words of encouragement. Just in Case You Ever Wonder wraps your children in its tender message of love, comfort, and protection, showing them that as they grow and change, you'll always be there for them-whether it's "monsters in the closet" or hard times when other kids are mean. Beloved author, Max Lucado, helps express unconditional love for a child-simply, powerfully, and forever.

A parent tells a child how special she is, both to the parent and to God.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This board book version of an original picture book is heavy on text. The message of how each child is special and how God put the child being read to into his or her family is appealing. The mother reflects back on the baby's early days, and reassures her child that she will always be there to love, comfort and teach about God. In spite of the format and published age, it is more appropriate for kids 3 to 5. A good choice for Christian parents who are comfortable in their relationships and ability to express their feelings to their kids and perhaps a stepping stone for those for whom it may be a little more difficult. 2000 (orig. 1992), Tommy Nelson, Ages 3 to 5, $5.99. Missing the point...it's not a book about breastfeeding

Let's keep in mind that God made all kids of families, including parents that have adopted their children, and are therefore unable to breastfeed. This is a book about FAMILIES love and GODS love. Not a bottle feed/breastfeeding debate.

    Best book ever!

I've been reading this to my daughter since she was born. She's now 10 and I still cry every time. Max Lucado captured perfectly the unconditional love of a parent for a child. I hope that as my daughter grows and faces life's challenges, she remembers the words of this book.

    A reviewer

What a lovely book for children, reminding them how loved, worthy and wonderful they are! Children need more books like these, to know how special every one of them is. Other reviewers seem 'slightly' disappointed with the bottlefeeding picture (I'm poking fun, that's a severe understatement). Don't let them discourage you from getting this great book, it is a necessary book. To those reviewers... 'Don't Sweat The Small Stuff'... it's a good book. Read it, and pray to be less judgmental. Nobody's perfect. No one but Him. ***(Oh, and by the way, yes, I did breastfeed all 3 of my children.)

    Wonderful Christian Book!

This is our 'special' book that we read to our daughter almost every night. I know some Mom's our there are hung up on the picture of the child being bottle fed. As a mother who breast fed, I was not offended in the least. The story is so wonderful, and I love that this is available in a board book, as we all know how hard kids can be on books. I have not found a better book to give to a family with a girl yet!

    A must have!

Just In Case You Ever Wonder was a gift to my sister-in-law at her baby shower. She read it and said "Awwe! Sina, you have to read this; I'm crying! I don't know if it's the book or my pregnancy!" I cried too! Every child should know how special they are, how much they're loved and how much they have to look forward to in heaven! This a good way to say it in a way that a child, and an adult, can understand! Just be sure you tell them in your words too! I totally recommend this to anybody of any age!

A pleasure to read to your child

I bought this book for my 3 year old and she delights in the message every time I read it. It emphasizes what a wonderful and special gift from God she is to our family and that we will always be together even after this life in heaven. A beautiful, touching book about parental love, the gift that each child is from God and Gods eternal love.

    Touching story of love

Everytime I read this book to my two children I cry. It is such a moving book, explaining how important and special your child is to you and to God. It tells exactly what I have in my heart toward my children, but said better than I ever could. It is a must for every parent. I have bought it for all my friends that have children.

Just in Case You Ever Wonder

Just in Case You Ever Wonder by Max Lucado is a children's book that was sent to me for review by Thomas Nelson Publishers. About the Book: A timeless children's classic by best-selling author, Max Lucado, that reinforces the love of a parent. My Take: I was glad to be able to request another children's book to review, as we read with our daughter every day, and it is always nice to have new things to read! I was also looking forward to a children's book by Max Lucado. I have read his adult study books before, and I thought it would be neat to see what he had to say in a children's book. We were not disappointed. This is a sweet affirmation from parent to child of ongoing love and care. It further points to how God's love for her is even more phenomenal. I loved how at the end of the book the author points to heaven and how wonderful it will be for us to be there together. One caution I have is that there are mentions of protecting our children from 'monsters in the shadows,' and there is a slightly scary picture on that page. This would probably not be a big deal for kids age four and older, but our two year old got a little scared when we would come to that page. We try to avoid talking about monsters at all, since that just puts the idea in her head even more. Overall, this is a lovely story that seems to truly come from the heart of the author.

This book should be kept in heaven.

Another eBook for my kids. This one was a big hit with my reader. From the publisher: A timeless children's classic by best-selling author, Max Lucado, that reinforces the love of a parent. My reader has been asking to read this book every time we're in the car (which isn't often). I love that she loves this book. This girl of mine has regular nightmares about her loved ones dying and being left behind. This book speaks to her heart about losing loved ones and about loving those around you. Every time she reads it she picks a new favorite page. She even figured out the Kindle by reading this book. This is definitely a book that I am going to be keeping on hand for those moments when she feels overwhelmed by her feelings. Max Lucado really wrapped it all up in this simple book. I enjoyed reading it as much as my second grader did. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who may be having separation anxiety or be hurting the loss of a loved one. I would recommend it for all ages because it's so simple and concise. It gets right to the point and does it in a way only Max Lucado can do.

    Okay

I would say that this book is geared more toward young children who are walking, coloring, and talking. I would say 4 to7 years old would be ideal. I almost feel like it wants to paint a happy utopia picture (with rose colored glasses) of life, God, and parents which is what I think bugs me the most. Overall, I like the idea of the book and it's sweetness but I do believe it's probably not something every kid would be able to grasp or understand.

Just In Case You Ever Wonder

Hi! I've just received a new book for booksneeze- but before I get started, I should say that I have received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Everything I say is completely my own opinion. Now, I almost always enjoy Max Lucado's books. But my most recent book- "Just In Case You Ever Wonder" by Max Lucado, fell short of my expectations. I went in understanding it was a children's book, and I'm totally fine with that. But the book felt very. strange to me. It seemed to jump randomly from one subject to another, with no smooth transition. Now in a children's book, that's not an issue, but I had grown to expect more from Max. This book also ends very abruptly with a weird, random few pages about heaven at the conclusion. The entire thing felt very disconcerted, and while each subject would be fantastic to introduce to children individually, trying to cram many things in a few pages rushed the outcome. However, the illustrations are adorable and would provide much entertainment for a child perusing the pages. It is interesting to watch the child in the book grow up, as it were. Overall, I give it a three out of five stars.

Great for sharing God's love and Parental love.

This is a book review for Booksneeze.

When I saw another children's book was available by Max Lucado, I had to jump on the opportunity. Lucado's book, Just In Case You Ever Wonder, is a good short read for any child's bedtime story. The illustrations show the child as a little girl, but I think the story still applies to a little boy just the same.

The story begins with God thinking about the baby and tells how it was His decision to bring the baby into this world. Lucado talks about the same God that made the universe and world fashions each and every single one of us. Sharing with the reader that we are special, because God made us. Lucado goes on to talk about how unique we are physically compared to anyone else in the world. Again, emphasizing that we are special. Because we are special, Lucado says, God had to place us in a special place...with our parents.

The book goes on to share how the love of the parent grows each day with the baby. Lucado shares how things grow and change, but some things remain the same; the parental affection, love, and presence. Lucado ends the book by emphasizing that being with parents is not the only special place He made for us. He made a place called heaven we can spend with him, and like life with our parents there we can feel God's affection, love, and presence forever along with our parents.

I am a big fan of children's books that emphasize spiritual relationship. This is a great book to share with your children. I know my one year old is too young to appreciate it, but I cannot wait to share it with my three year old.

    Loved It!

great, because it really helps to reaffirm to your child that you love them, and will always be there for them. It also teaches that God is just like a father, which I think is a really important thing for a child to understand. This book reinforces that as parents, we will always love, cherish, and support our children, and it is structured in a way that is easy for the child to understand. It's encouraging to a child to hear that their mommy or daddy love them and will always be there for them. It makes them feel secure. And I think this book also helps make children feel more secure about God always being there for them as well. Well put together!

    no real moral to it

Summary: "Just in Case you Ever Wonder" by Mac Lucado is short children's book written from a loving parent's perspective. The parent reassures the child that he or she is loved by God and by his or her parents, tells the child the parent will always be there for them, and reminds the child of the glories of heaven that await.

Review: As sweet as this book is, I miss Lucado's children's books that had more intriguing illustrations and deeper morals behind them. This book is a great book for a parent to read to a child. It teaches that God created each person, just as he created the entire universe. It teaches a proper parenting model of love, teaching, and bringing a child up in the Lord. It's sweet. I just pity the child who won't be able to relate because they aren't in a positive family.

    An "okay" Read

"Just in Case You Ever Wonder" is a typical, powerful message from Max Lucado. The book is geared toward the five to seven year old, in my opinion. The message focuses on the joy of the child's life that has been brought into the world by a loving and sovereign God. The words are sure to send a strong message of love and comfort as a parent or guardian reads to the child. Max Lucado puts into words what many parents are unable to convey to their children. The book expresses the joy the child has brought into the world and how special they are to God and others. The words assure them that God has placed them in their family and where they live for specific reasons. The book assures the child that the parent is there for them just as God is. It powerfully conveys that the parent is there to teach them about their Heavenly Father and to assist God in caring for them.

I wasn't particularly excited about the illustrations. I guess I expected a little more from a Lucado book. I'm not sure the illustrations will be particularly inviting to young children. The only other aspect of the book I wasn't fond of was the reference to "noises in the closet" and "monsters in the shadows." I never gave my children the slightest edge on these things. I certainly wouldn't read this to a child right before bed time. I just think this part could have been left out. Why not bring a more uplifting message to the child such as how God is always watching over them and protecting them . . . giving them peace to sleep at night???
I'm not sure this is a book I'd recommend . . . there are many other books out there for children that send a more consistent, uplifting message.

    Highly Recommended - MUST READ!!!!

I fell in love with this book at the first reading. I love how Max says that God made the children special in their own ways. I love how he says that God picked them especially for our family. My kids LOVE this book. I think it is a must for all parents to have on their shelves.

A Loving Embrace Disguised as a Book

Just In Case You Ever Wonder, is a bookshelf essential for every child in your home. Like a warm hug on a troubling day, this book will wrap your child in the depth of your love, and strengthen them as they discover the intensity of God's love.

It is a simple book that speaks of a parent's unconditional love, yet it is a profound book, as you can personalize it, expanding on what makes each of your children so special to you. As you tell your children about the first time you saw them, or what a symphony their precious giggles are to you, they will bask in your love. As you remind them when they get bad grades, are scared of monsters in their closet, or monsters on the playground, you will be there for them, they will be strengthened by your love.

More importantly, it lets them know God loves them even more than we do. As special as we think our children are, God shaped them with the same hands that shaped the moon and the sun. He searched for the perfect home for His beautiful creation, and He will watch over and protect them. He created Heaven to spend eternity with them. He loves them more than we ever could.

I would recommend purchasing one book for each of your children. Inside, write what makes them so special to you. So even when they get older, and bedtime stories are a thing of the past - when peer pressure to look this way, act that way, and go this way takes a toll on them, they can crack open their favorite book, and remember how loved they are, by both you and God.just in case they ever wonder.

Don't be ignorant-realize this is an important tool for adoptive parents

My 5 year old daughter was born with severe problems associated with her birth mother's drug abuse. I have three older healthy boys I gave birth to, and breast fed, but remember the pride I felt that she was simply able to take a bottle, and we didn't have to have a feeding tube placed in her when she was an infant. I wasn't able to breastfeed, but treasure my memories of rocking her and feeding her during those uncertain few months. Today, when we got the results of her developmental testing, I I cried out of fear for her future. I questioned God's plan for her and felt angry that she still has so many obstacles in her path. Then, after her bath, she crawled into my lap with a book i never knew she had on her book shelf. I could almost hear God speaking those words I needed to hear. I truly feel God has spoken to me tonight. Thank you, Mr. Lucado. My daughter went to sleep tonight with a smile on her face and peace in her heart. So will I.
