Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This charming collection seems the natural companion to her other 'grandmother' books. Most of the recipes (a few are from grandfathers) are for homey comfort food from a variety of ethnic traditions: Kasha with Bowtie Noodles, Tortilla Soup, Chicken and Cornbread Dressing, Flan. Brief headnotes give some background, but the Grandmas and other family members are identified only by first name, without much context. Even so, this is an appealing compendium of favorite, old-fashioned dishes many readers will remember fondly from childhood.

Introduction

The heritage of the women in my family is not diamonds and rubies. It is poppy seed and chocolate. It is the recipe for turkey dressing borrowed rom a friend's grandmother, and sweet potatoes made the way a neighbor showed me. In other homes it is marinara sauce and Grandma's cookies, for in all our families we treasure recipes from generation to generation as if they were the gold chains of the Empress. -- From Just Like Grandma Used To Make
