Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 10-12-Julie Marshall, 16, falls for Kyle Browning the first time he speaks to her. So, when he suggests that she would love having sex as much as she loves ice cream, she gives in. Predictably, she becomes pregnant and he loses interest. She tries to face the issue alone at first but eventually tells her family and a couple of close friends. Interwoven with Julie's story is information about having (or abstaining from) sex, becoming pregnant, determining options, finding help, and facing the decision(s), but it's often so involved that it interrupts and overshadows the somewhat contrived and didactic plot. At times, it's difficult to believe that Julie gets so far into her pregnancy without learning what to expect. As with all her books, Johnson writes from a Christian perspective; non-Christians will either be interested in or put off by the additional side lessons about God, Jesus, and religious beliefs.-Dona Weisman, Northeast Texas Library System, Garland

    Needed Fiction

Sometimes issues that are hard to handle can be incorporated into fiction. When this is done well, the reader learns without feeling some 'authority figure' is pointing a finger and preaching. This book gives girls a look into the emotional roller coaster of premarital sex and pertinent facts needed in today's society.

    great book

I am 24yrs old and when I was in the 9th grade I read this book and thought it was a wonderful book. I ended up passing it to a friend and the book eventually was passed between all the girls in my class and then it got pass to someone outside of my class and needless to say I never seen the book again. So make a long story short my whole class liked it and was influenced in some way or another by the book.

I highly recommend this book for all teenage girls.

About 18 years ago I gave this book to a teenage girl who had come into my sphere of influence (after reading it myself)That same young lady who is now thirty something, tells me today Oct,19th 2009, that she just passed the book on to her teenage daughter. There is not much more to say, that alone speak volumes as to impact this book has made on those who have read it.

    Inlightening

This book gave me a different out look on teen-age pregnancy. before I read this book I looked at pegnant teens like they shouldn't have slept around and it's their fault and responsability. Now I understand that under the preasure of someone you love and are afraid will leave you, you would do anything to keep them around. I have also realized no one should look down on pregnant teens because they have to take on way to much responsability to soon, something most women couldn't handle. I hope that when people read this book they realize the same thing I did, what dosen't kill you makes you stronger.

    Totally hilarious!

My friends and I thought this was the funniest book in the entire world. We read it aloud to each other. If you are a sex-positive teenager or young twentysomething with a healthy skepticism of religion, and you're in the need for amusement, don't miss out! The horrible writing and plotline and easily mockable characters just can't be beat. Bonus: find the homoeroticism in the doctor's office scenes!
