Just Like Mama is a beautiful testament to the love between mother and daughter, and especially how, in a child’s eyes, a mother does everything perfectly, from cooking to playing to simply loving. There are some things that no one can do as well as a mom. “With a pile of pancakes shaped like moons, and cocoa with a cloud of cream, no one can cook breakfast just like Mama.” Nor garden, host tea parties, cook supper, or tuck her child into bed. No one does it just like Mama can. And in the end, nobody loves Mama just like her little girl does.

How does a mother tell her daughter, "I love you?" Let us count the ways. She makes apple pancakes shaped like a moon. She hunts for frogs while gardening. She hosts tea parties for the teddy bears. She plays dress-up in a glittery gown. She fixes spaghetti for supper. She gives the best hugs at bedtime. And how does her little girl show her love for Mama? The gentle rhyming text by Leslea Newman, who also wrote Eight Nights of Chanukah, and the endearing colorful illustrations by Julia Gorton, who also illustrated Score! 50 Poems to Motivate and Inspire, combine to present a beautiful testimony to the love between a mother and daughter. It would be a charming read for mothers and daughters to share on Mother's Day and throughout the year to remind us that nobody loves us "Just Like Mama"!
