Children's LiteratureA chip off the old block might be a good description of this board book, which is part of the "Touch-And-Match Fun Book" series. Kids will see younger versions of animals and learn a bit about each. For example, the pink fuzzy pig and her piglet are having great fun in the mud. The kitten is learning to hide and purr, while the puppy tries to buy a bone. The cow and the lamb share their antics, and the little bunny enjoys his hop in the garden. The closing scene shows a baby in a high chair making a mess but, as with all the spreads, you can feel the textures of the animal pairs and the clothes that baby and mommy wear. For those kids who may not recognize the animals, the back cover names them. It can be an easy way to learn animal names, if you have a knowledgeable and interested caregiver. A companion book is Just Like Daddy. 2006, Little Simon/ Simon & Schuster, Ages 1 to 3.
