All Music Guide - James Christopher Monger
A truly fan-centric offering, Rhino's Just Look Them Straight in the Eye and Say...Pogue Mahone!! delivers enough aural ammunition to satisfy the bloodlust of even the most ardent fan of the band, eschewing the usual best-of format for one that more closely adheres to the group's miscreant ways. Most remarkable of all is the quality, both sonically and technically, of the material, much of which, like a spirited and deliciously seething performance of "The Rake at the Gates of Hell" taken from the Janice Long Show, and a hellfire rendition of Steve Earle's "Johnny Come Lately" with Steve Earle is at the very least on par with their remarkable studio recordings.
