Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Little Critter and his mother are off to spend a day in the city. The hustle and bustle are a big change from what Little Critter is used to, but he bravely holds his mother's hand. When they visit the museum of natural history, he touches a few things he shouldn't. He really does get into a bit of trouble, so they head off to the aquarium, and that was not exactly a big success nor was their meal at the restaurant because Little Critter lets his pet frog join him at the table. It ends with a wild taxi ride back to the station and a trip home after an exhausting day. Little Critter and his pet frog are barely able to keep their eyes open as Mama reads them a story. Looking for the frog on each page might be more interesting than the text. It is a jam packed day and, in reality, would represent several excursions for most kids. 2004 (orig. 1990), Golden/Random House, Ages 4 to 6.

    I Also Recommend:

This is a good book to read alone or aloud with others

Little Critter and his mom go the big city and have some adventures. What I found most most interesting was that Little Critter's friend, the Frog is in almost every page! This book is perfect to read on Mother's Day, and it's also a good bed-time story any day of the year.

    A separated parent

My son has a very good relationship with his mom for which I'm glad. This book tells of many of the things that a son and his mom do when they are together and it is also great, and it is similar to my boy and his mom. A child needs both parents and Mercer Mayer makes that clear, as he also makes clear that a child needs grandparents and friends as well.

    Wonderful stories

I am a nurse that works with preschoolers and reads loads of books before naptime and bedtime. This and other books by this author are read on a daily basis. The stories capture the child's attention and makes them laugh and forget what is going on around them.
