Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Elizabeth Young
An activity book for mothers and daughters that is intended to tighten the bond between them. The trouble with this type of idea is the sense of equality with each other, where mothers and daughters are meant to be friends' only. There is no mention of respect for the mother, and while there is no harm in sharing these activities, they really seem more appropriate to be shared with your best friends. At the intended audience age there still needs to be some level of authority. This "American Girl" work does not present that concept anywhere between the covers, except for the statement in the preface: "the girl who knows you best, your mom," and even that is subjective. Aside from all that, the activities suggested are not so far-fetched, and can be done in a very few minutes, or all weekend, depending on what is available. This may be used as an ice breaker at a girl's camp or meeting having daughters fill out what they can, and their mothers contributing their thoughts later. Your mother can be your friend at times, but don't forget she is also responsible for you! Reviewer: Elizabeth Young

Our 9 year old granddaughter loved this gift from us. She feels she and her mom have a special relationship (she's the second of four children) and she loves to do things with her mother. She was thrilled with all the ideas and activities in this book. I reminded her she didn't need to do everything at once and she said,"I know." This book provides lots of suggestions for things to do and special talks mothers can have with their daughters. At a time when kids are growing up so fast, this book reflects very basic sharing between mothers and daughters and makes it possible for them to spend that ever elusive "quality time" together.

Fun and sweet activities to do with your daughter. Nice way to spend time together as you do the activities. American Girl always is a winner!

This is a great book! I loved all the mom and daughter things you can compare to, when you were a little girl. I would recommend this book to any mom who has a daughter. All the American Girl books are wonderful!

I found this book while browsing one day, and it seemed perfect for my nine-year-old and me. I know in the past that she's been jealous of my relationship with her younger brother. The things offered in this book gives moms and daughters a chance to do more together (if they don't already) and to learn more about each other (some times there are just things that don't come up in a normal conversation with a nine-year-old about what your growing up years were like). She was excited when she got this for Valentine's Day, so I hope we get some good use out of it.

Wonderful work, My sister and niece were excited to start doing the activities. The bond that was almost fading regained strength!
