Overview

In Lauren Layne’s sizzling Sex, Love & Stiletto series, New York’s hottest “sexpert” has been living a lie—and it’s up to one man to keep her honest . . . all night long.

Riley McKenna knows sex—good sex, bad sex, kinky sex. Her articles in Stiletto magazine are the publication’s most scandalous—and the most read. But when Stiletto’s fiftieth anniversary issue requires her column to get a lot more personal, Riley is forced to confront a long-hidden secret: Her own sexual experience is limited to one awkward college encounter. Now Riley is about to call in the favor of a lifetime from the one man who’s always held her heart.

Sam Compton knows two things about Riley McKenna: She’s the only woman for him. But as his best friend’s little sister, she’s also completely off-limits. Sam shouldn’t even consider her proposition: to have a one-night stand in the name of research. But the thought of another man putting his hands on Riley is more than Sam can handle, and soon he’s agreeing to one night with New York’s resident sexpot. But Riley’s full of surprises, and what starts as “one time only” soon becomes “just one more time.” And then one more. And before they know it, Riley and Sam learn firsthand that when it comes to love, there’s no such thing as just one night.

Riley McKenna has an image to maintain. As the resident sex-expe

Riley McKenna has an image to maintain. As the resident sex-expert at Stilleto magazine, she has written some of the most scandalous articles published between its pages. But her inexperience between the sheets threatens to come out when the magazine’s 50th anniversary issue delves into the personal lives of its writers. Her only option is to call on a favor from longtime friends, and the man who stole her heart, Sam Compton.

Sam Compton reluctantly agrees to her proposition for a one night stand in the name of research. But he knows that it is a very bad idea. No matter how much he’s attracted to her, Riley is still his best friend’s little sister. That doesn’t mean he’d let another man participate in her “research.” Soon one night becomes another and one more after that. Sam and Riley quickly realize that love doesn’t adhere to their rule of just one night.

This story captured my attention with the first paragraph, and I kept telling myself “just one more chapter” when I should have been doing something else. I never thought of Riley as a sex columnist except for when she or someone else brought it up. She struck me as a spunky, charming woman who could live next door to me (if I could afford an apartment in Manhattan). The scenes with her and her family, or with her friends,  drove home her realistic, multi-faceted personality.

Sam Compton also struck me as realistic, or at least the kind of guy I wouldn’t mind meeting. It did take me a few pages to stop associating him with Bill Compton of the Sookie Stackhouse series. But Sam is nothing like vampire Bill. He’s conflicted over the role he wants Riley to have in his life, and the reader gets to see exactly where he’s coming from in that respect.

The premise of the story, that Riley has been saving herself for Sam ever since an awkward college experience, is a bit far-fetched in my opinion. However the writing, the characters, and the attraction between Riley and Sam absolutely make up for that.

Just One Night is the third in a series. Reading books one and two isn’t necessary for enjoying this one, though.

This quick read would be great for anyone who enjoy contemporary romances.

    Rating: 5/5

Riley is great at her job. Writing tips for a great sex life. On

Riley is great at her job. Writing tips for a great sex life. Only problem is she doesn't have a sex life. She has only been with one person and it wasn't anything to write about. Now she has to write a personal article and she knows she needs to have some great sex to write about. She just has to convince the guy she wants to go along with it. Sam has always wanted Riley but never crossed that line. He is like an extra member of her family and doesn't want to ruin that. Plus he doesn't want to be another notch in her bed post. When Riley tells him either he sleeps with her or she finds someone else he steps up. They agree to one night but that may not be enough for two people who have always loved each other.

Riley is a great character. She puts up a good front that she is a sex expert and has guarded her secret closely that she knows nothing about sex. She is a very sexy woman and tries all kinds of tricks to get to Sam. Sam has gave everything up for his dream but is afraid to finish his dream. He is used to being talked down to and is afraid to disappoint the people he caress about. Riley has always been the woman he wants but he made a promise he doesn't like to break. It shows how much he likes to keep his promises and how much he cares for his friends.

This was a joy to read as Riley and Sam both want each other so bad and Sam keeps fighting it. Riley isn't one to give up and pulls every trick she can to convince him to be with her. Riley's friends are awesome and I loved reading about them as well. Her family is simply amazing. There is tons of sexual tension in this book as one is fighting not to be together and the other is fighting to be together. Even together Riley has to really push Sam to look at what he is doing in his life. She pushes him to do more but for good reasons.I could not stand Sam's mother and hate how she warped him in many ways. He has to learn to feel better about his self and to really do what he wants. I liked this book and would recommend it to anyone wanting a great story about great people.

    Good Book!

Lauren Layne has authored another absorbing novel with Just One Night, book three in The Stiletto Series. It is a satisfying read; complete with an appealing storyline, interesting characters and sexual tension. Riley, Julie, Grace and Emma are back, the hottest female relationship columnists in the New York City area. Riley McKenna is the focus of this story.

For almost ten years, Riley has been in love with Sam Compton, her brother Liam's best friend. She has always been hopeful that one day they would be a couple. Unbeknown to Riley, Sam shares the same feelings, but he puts up barriers in order to prevent himself from being loved.

Riley is finding her new writing assignment to be quite a challenge, so she seeks Sam's assistance because she trusts him. Their time together evolves into a deep friendship that surpasses anything either of them have ever experienced.

This book can be read as a stand alone, even though it is part of a series. I found the story to be original and sexy. Ms. Lane does a wonderful job of creating the engaging camaraderie between the four women. I loved how Riley's mom incorporated her Irish traditions into her cooking....by just adding a side of potatoes to everything and anything, what a riot.

I like this series from Lauren. I like the friction between the ladies from Stiletto and the gentlemen from Oxford magazines. Sam is Riley' s brother Liam' s best friend. Liam told him to keep away from Riley. Riley has been in love with Sam since her teens and she is now in her late 20's.  She writes sex articles for Stiletto. There is a spoiler here so I will skip over it. Sam has problems with his mother. She gripes about Riley and runs him down. He has loved Riley since he met her. His mom has convinced him he is worthless and he believes her. Lauren pulls you into her stories. They are hard to put down. Please explore this series!

A great addition to the Sex, Love and Stiletto series. A fantastic story filled with humor and sexy fun with just a dash of angst. How will her fans react when Sex advice columnist Riley McKenna has to admit she may not know exactly what she's writing about?? Well she hopes childhood crush Sam Compton will help her keep them from finding out! You definitely don't want to miss this highly recommended read!

I really love the Sex, Love & Stiletto series and that with each book it gets better and better. I love that I, like every other reader and every other character in this series, had a very firm opinion of Riley McKenna and in JUST ONE NIGHT Ms. Layne slips in an amazing surprise when Riley finds herself in a bit of a crisis with work that is a game changer. It was a wonderful surprise and really made the book, and Riley, so much more interesting. Not that this great group of friends and lovers so hilariously written by Ms. Layne need much help.

Admittedly friends-to-lovers stories are one of my favorites, but this one felt unique. Maybe because both Riley and Sam have had such strong feelings for each other for the past TEN YEARS!! Riley’s friends could see they were perfect for one another, loved one another, but these two were so busy being in denial and not wanting to spoil a friendship they chose to fight and bicker and verbally spar instead. Yet, underneath these things they used to cut the sexual tension between them was true caring. They each compared all others to the other, made daily and even life decisions based on their feelings even if they didn’t admit that’s what they were doing. He was a great balance to Riley and she was a great motivator for him. They are just so perfect together!

Sam was so sweet, earnest, hot, sexy, passionate and broken. God I hated his mother. It’s got to be hard to write a man so damaged and not seeing his potential, and still make him loveable and desirable and book boyfriend material but Ms. Layne pulls it off. Riley was not an easy person, she is sassy, full of spunk, mouthy, stubborn, and not afraid to say – or write about – whatever is on her mind. I mean, she writes as a sex expert for goodness sake, and nothing is off limits. But Sam is her match. I loved their bantering, the sexual innuendos, how they just plain got each other. And once they do decide to take it to the next level it is crazy hot and steamy! Ten years of built up desire and sexual frustration for one another was smoking hot to read! I loved how Sam kept asking to try out some of the things Riley had researched and wrote about in her sex column to keep spicing up their bedroom antics to the next level. And I loved how much he cared about her family and was just as afraid of losing them as he was Riley.

All of the previous characters from the first two books are front and center adding more hilarity as well as emotional depth to the story. These four best girlfriends are so good together! I loved the advice, the schemes, and the dragging of their men into their plotting. Sam really never stood a chance. Lucky man! Just One Night kept my interest throughout the entire story and had me hating that it was over. I can’t wait for Emma’s story! Unlike Riley we know up front she’s a major secret keeper, so I know it’s going to be amazing when it all comes out! 5 stars.

I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review, so here it is. Can someone that doesn't have any experience with sex be an established writer for a magazine? Riley McKenna is just that. She is a sex expert for magazine Stiletto and everyone thinks she has lived the stories she writes. Date after disastrous date and Riley is still alone and still waiting on Mr Right. But Mr Right is Sam Compton, her brothers best friend. She has been in love with Sam since she met him ten years ago. While Riley compares all men to Sam, Sam doesn't know she exist. When the 50th edition of the magazine is coming up, her boss wants the ladies, Julie, Emma, Grace and Riley to write about personal experiences. And Riley doesn't have any other than a flub one night in college as a memory. With the help of her friends, Riley is given a way to let Sam see what he is missing. When Sam realizes what he wants, he can only thinks that it will end badly. Because he doesn't thinks he is good enough for Riley. Things are good for a while and then it blows up. And Riley writes her article and Sam is lost without her. It take Liam, Riley's brother to get Sam to see what he really wants. Can he win Riley back? Will Riley let her heart continue to love Sam? This is a first for me by Lauren Layne and I loved it. Can't wait to read more from the Sex, Love & Stiletto series.

I'm becoming a Lauren Layne fan very fast. Every book that I have read including this one has sucked me in from page one. While this romantic story is based off a very normal in love with your brother's best friend story, it was very unique. This author has a habit of drawing you in and feeling everything the characters feel. I shed a couple tears while reading this book. It was really hard for me to watch them struggle to get it right. Which just goes to show how deeply involved with the characters Lauren Layne makes you feel.

I will be going back and reading this series from the begining but you can read this book as a stand alone also!

Received an ARC copy from Netgalley for a honest review. Wow! Loved it! First book for me by this author but won't be the last. Storyline was a catchy, hot romantic and funny read that left me smiling thru out the book. Was easily sucked into the storyline and couldn't put it down. Loved the natural interaction and steamy chemistry between Sam and Riley. Loved the friends before lovers theme and how true love never dies. I would definitely recommend and plan to read the rest of the series.

hot romance about hidden feelings - loved it
Riley works in Stiletto along with Grace and Julie, she is the “sex expert” and since is the magazine’s birthday every journalist will have to do an issue related with their own personal experience. There’s only one problem: Riley does her work based on research, her personal experience is pretty much close to zero. The main reason for that is Sam - her oldest brothers best friend and basically a part of her family. Riley and Sam know each other since kids but they do not feel very brotherly/sisterly for each other
So, she decides to take a risk and ask Sam to sleep with her in order to “research”

This was my first book in this series but I really enjoyed it. The storyline for this book was a bit predictable but funny and well developed.
You see the development in third person but in both POVs, which was very engaging. I really liked Riley - she is a strong heroine who is not afraid of taking chances, even if that means she will be hurt in the process. Sam was a bit difficult but I could understand him - he is somewhat insecure and tries to hide himself to keep from hurting.

absolutely adorable are the secondary characters - the Stiletto girls as well as Rileys family. They were a big reason why this book was really fun to read.

All in all: this was a nice hot story with a lot of spark and characters who were more than skin deep and who are really likeable.
I can't wait to read the first books in this series and really hope for a forth book
