Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
The problems with this book are many. Penny Poppen, a girl with an unbridled imagination, is 11; the part of her character that is interested in boys and is jealous of rival girls seems older, while the part that gets kids together to perform a play she's written seems younger. It's hard to get a sense of Penny, but she's so extreme and poorly characterized that it's not worth the effort anyway. Penny does, in the course of writing and presenting the play, learn about friendship and cooperation. There are many better stories covering similar ground. --Carolyn Jenks, Oyster River Elementary Sch . , Durham, NH
