Overview

A fabulously fun, romantic comedy from a dynamic new talent.

Nothing fazes Taylor Donovan—not in the courtroom and not in her personal life. So when she's assigned to coach People's Sexiest Man Alive for his role in the next big legal drama, she refuses to fall for the Hollywood heartthrob's charms. Even if he is the Jason Andrews.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

In this awkward debut romance, the supposed hero's juvenile behavior sets the stage for a frustrating read that not even a sparkling final third can mitigate. Taylor Donovan, a brilliant Chicago lawyer visiting L.A. to defend a sexual harassment case, is not happy to be assigned to help heartthrob actor Jason Andrews prep for a courtroom drama. As they begin working together, Jason predictably behaves like a spoiled teenager, but becomes increasingly enchanted with Taylor. She eventually begins to see Jason as a nice guy underneath his Hollywood attitude-with sleazy, jealous actor Scott Casey as a convenient foil-but she can't set aside her trust issues. As Jason tries to convince Taylor to stay in L.A., the book suddenly turns witty and romantic, but getting there is no fun at all. (Oct.)

James['s] . . . familiarity with both the law and the film industry lends credibility to this fast-moving, contemporary romantic comedy between two strong-willed characters.
Lettetia Elsasser
The sparks fly, hilarity is plentiful with all of the one-liners in the story, and underneath it all is a touching look at fame and fortune and how it can become the only reason people get close to a person. Just the Sexiest Man Alive is now residing on my "keeper" shelf. Once you read the exploits of Taylor and Jason, you will feel the same way. Bravo, Ms James.
Affaire de Coeur
Night Owl Romance
Ms. James tackles what happens...with wit [and] humor. The one-liners will keep you laughing all the way through this book.

I must say, I was very impressed ....I liked Taylor. Heck, I want to be Taylor in my next life ....“Just the Sexiest Man Alive” is a true romance. A larger than life hero and an unlikely heroine whose lives would normally never intersect and yet they turn out to be perfect for each other. All together now...awwww. If you're looking for a feel-good romance, you can't go wrong with this story. Julie James' next novel, “Practice Makes Perfect,” is due out in March of 2009. I'll be looking to pick up that one too!
Romance Reviews Today
If you've ever wondered what it is like having the Hollywood spotlight on you, this is the book to read. Each word and situation is lovingly crafted and is, happy to say, perfection. . . . JUST THE SEXIEST MAN ALIVE is a spectacular beginning of what I hope is a stellar career of debut author, Julie James. . . . [M]y heart beat faster and I felt as though I were interrupting the sexiest couple I ever read about. I'm jumping up and down here asking you not to miss this awesome novel that rightly deserves my Perfect 10 award.

Romantic Times
In her debut novel, James shakes up the world of lawyers and celebrity romance, producing a captivating, beautifully written story. The fireworks between the characters fuel the plot and will keep readers flipping the pages at a dizzying pace.”

I can't believe I loved everything about this book...

Even Though I like my romantic novel with a minimum of an R rating, this had to be the only PG Romantic novel I've ever enjoyed. I couldn't put this book down. I have her upcoming novel down on my calendar.

A fun and very satisfying read!

Review as seen on Book Binge.

I'm a sucker for those flirty heroes that are cocky and arrogant. You know, the kind of heroes that are bewildered when the heroine's don't fall into a puddle of lust at the sight of them. I love seeing them humbled. I loved seeing them so full of themselves in the beginning and then watching as they slowly come to realize that they're not as great as they think they are. I love seeing them come full circle and wooing their heroines into loving them anyway.

This book was great. It was a fast and funny read and I'm seriously wanting to read another Julie James book. It took me no time at all to read this book and I was sad to finish the story and say goodbye to the characters. They became real to me and I enjoyed getting to know them.

This book is about Jason Andrews and Taylor Donovan. Jason is this big hot shot celebrity actor, think Brad Pitt, a Multiple People's Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive and he pretty much got everything that he ever wanted. Women dropped their panties for him at the snap of a finger and people jumped to do his bidding every time he so much as glanced at them. He had that kind of power over people, the celebrity kind of power and he was so used to it that he didn't bother to think about what other people thought, it simply was and he enjoyed the power he had over people.

Taylor Donovan, on the other hand is a rising star in the law world. She was one of the top lawyers from her firm and she was sent to L.A. from Chicago to help with a big sexual harassment case and she takes her job very seriously. Even if she's forced to take a job she doesn't want, no matter who the job is for.

She doesn't give two flits about Jason Andrews and even though she thinks he's insanely attractive, she doesn't see what the big deal about him is, she vows to treat him as anyone else. She was going to treat him like she treats all of her other clients, only he stands her up at their first appointment and then stands her up again for their second appointment. She had cleared her schedule for him and he didn't even have the decency to call her and let her know he couldn't make it. He just left her hanging and so she did what any other woman would do.

She got good and pissed. She was so livid with him that when he finally did decide to come in and see her, she didn't care who the hell he was or anything, she was too busy for him.

That first meeting between Jason and Taylor was the best frickin' meeting ever. I thought it was hilarious and I loved the way that Taylor handled it. She totally had me crackin' up and then grinning like a fool, she was frickin' awesome. The way that she kept putting him in his place always had me laughing my ass off.

The characters were great, the dialogue was easy to follow along with and the plot all made for a really fast and a really fun read. I really enjoyed reading this book, I would really recommend this book to those of you who are looking for a light and entertaining read. This book delivers the laughs, the emotions and a romance that had you cheering the main characters on.

Jason and Taylor were a fantastic couple and I enjoyed getting to know them and watch them bump along the road to their happy ending, this was just one great book that let me escape into the lives of the rich and famous for a few hours and I absolutely will be reading more Julie James books.

    a fun enjoyable contemporary romance

Chicago based attorney Taylor Donovan is the coolest under fire lawyer known on the planet whether it is penis harassment or penal coding she never loses it to her they are the same and for that matter she never loses a case. The only people who can get inside to Taylor is her beloved parents, who sacrificed so much for her to be come a lawyer she vows to never let them down.----------------- Her firm Gray & Dallas sent her to Los Angeles to litigate a sexual harassment case. Her temporary L.A. boss Sam Blakely asks her to do him a favor as the best litigator in the firm. He wants her to train People magazine's 'Sexiest Man Alive' Jason Andrews for his role as a lawyer in a film. Sam also warns her not to go starry eyed over the hunk she learned from childhood that ¿There¿s no crying in baseball¿ (A League of their Own) or in life. When they meet Jason turns on the charm, but strikes out as Taylor rejects his seductive endeavors. The more she refuses him, the more he wants her. As each begins to fall in love, two buried gentler souls surface.---------------- This engaging mixing of Hollywood and litigation is a fun enjoyable contemporary romance. The lead couple is a strong casting of individuals who at first seem so different yet as the audience get to know both of them, they share much the same attitude on life. Although the plot is somewhat limited fans will relish this superb relationship drama starring a pair of ¿drop-outs¿.---------- Harriet Klausner

    Good book

    ## I have to say, i liked "practice makes perfect" and "a lot like love" a lot better than this book. Don't get me wrong, this book is well written and highly entertaining. The heroine was awesome. The dialogue was witty and there are many laugh out loud moments. The only thing i didnt like about it (hence the four stars instead of five), was the hero. And that is a biggie for me. He was so arrogant that it bordered on rediculous. And what a complete man-slut. At one point he even points out that he has "done" four (4) of the Laker girls. It was really off-putting. I feel the author went overboard on his character. It's hard to believe the smart, beautiful heroine would fall for him. I think i would've liked her to kick this guy to the curb. But the rest was amazing.

    more from this reviewer

I look forward to more books by this author!

Review by Jen: I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. The characters were both strong and well-developed. They played off each other in a way that made me want to keep reading their story. I actually kept visualizing the story as if it was a movie, which I never do. I found the whole plot of the story fun, with enough twists to keep it interesting and fresh. The secondary characters supported the story without taking over.

All in all, I recommend Just the Sexiest Man Alive. And I look forward to reading more from Julie James. And for those who want to know more about her writing, check out our interview with her here or come back tomorrow for an all new interview and a look at her newest release, Something About You.

Very Quick, easy and fun read

I enjoyed this book but not as much as her others. "A Lot Like Love" and "Something About You" were so much better. For the price of the doanload you can find a better book. If the money isn't a issue the download and enjoy!!

    Great fun!

I debated whether to give this one 5 stars or not. It probably is more along a 4 1/2, but still great. I found the characters enjoyable. I loved how Taylor showed Jason up not once, but many times. Jason's reaction to Taylor tugged at my heart strings. Good Read. I think that is why I gave it such a high rating. All day long, I was anxious to sit down and read more of this book.
