Children's Literature - Christine Nicodemus
While a seemingly ubiquitous musician for the last few years, relatively few might know much about Justin Bieber beyond the titles of his most popular songs. However, with Bodden's research, she has developed a book that not only chronicles the star's rise to fame, but also includes facts like when Bieber had his first kiss (age 13), what he ate on his first date (a mound of spaghetti that stained his white shirt), and the root of his claustrophobia (having been stuck in an elevator for four hours). One of eight books in the "Contemporary Lives" series, this one would be a great text for any "Bieberholic" (a person addicted to the star, page 12). However, even those less interested in this particular celebrity will find the book valuable as a classroom resource. Bodden's writing provides a good model for using footnotes, headings, and subheadings in texts. Furthermore, the inclusion of a glossary, timeline, index, and resources page helps create a book that will lend itself to a discussion of study strategies and skills in the classroom.
