Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Superhero comics have often been called adolescent power fantasies that appeal to boys not girls. But consider the heroine of this manga series, whose catchphrase is "I am... God!" Orphaned schoolgirl Karin Hanazono finds emotional solace only in her pet cat. When the cat dies, Karin questions her faith in God. But soon she is befriended by sweet, pretty Himeka and her handsome but bad-tempered cousin, Kazune Kujyou. Karin realizes she is becoming smarter and stronger, and discovers that she can transform into a "goddess." She also discovers the responsibilities of maturity: she cannot change into her goddess form unless she wishes to protect someone. As in many superhero stories (but without their violence), this is a coming-of-age tale whose young hero painfully makes the transition from emotional dependence on her parents and pet to mastering the "powers" within herself. Despite Karin's romantic mooning over Kazune, this book has a strong feminist theme. Not only is Karin angered by Kazune's blatant sexism, but she also derives her "divine" power from her mother's ring. Koge-Donbo (Di Gi Charat) draws characters with typical manga cuteness, although the visual storytelling is sometimes confusing. The target audience of young girls should find this book satisfying. One of the BEST Manga I Have Ever Read!

As you can tell by the other reviews, I don't think there has been one rating under a five star! It was truly one of my favorite mangas! Koge-Dunbo is a truly gifted artist, and has showed off her work in this series! I can't wait to read the sequel, Kamichama Karin Chu!

    Goddess Power!

Karin is just a regular girl, but her parents died, she has an evil, i mean strict aunt/grandma, and her beloved cat, Shi-chan just died! She's all alone, until she meets this boy who disrespects Shi-chan. Then, she meets this girl, Himeka. Himeka is exactly like Karin, but she lives with her cousin. The cousin is actually the boy who disrespects Shi-chan! So then, after Himeka's cousin, Kazune finds out that Karin has an intresting ring, Karin runs away from them when the ring shone. Then, she's better running, smarter and controled the weather! Once more, Karin visted Shi-chan's grave, then meets a man who wants to destroy the ring. After Kazune tells to protect the ring, he decides to keep away, until again, the man Karin just met meet again. The man attempts to destroy the ring, but Kazune and Himeka saved her and she finds out she can transform into a goddess! She has to protect her friends and keep, 'Mr. Glasses Man' from getting her precious ring!

chickflick and a sailor moon wannabe

ok...another one of koge donbo's cute works...i am a big koge-donbo fan...but i dont think she did such a good job on this manga...i read three volumes so far of kamichama karin in japanese...it's so obvious of what's going to happen and it's not her greatest work...i'd reccomend pita ten, digi charat fantasy (perfect collection), yoki koto kitu, and the most cutest one 'sumo-oh'... sorry koge-donbo...try next time...
