Subtitled as "A Relationship Memoir," Streitmatter's book proposes to look at the dynamics of a relationship in instances when the couple's "true colors" are likely to come out: when they are away from their daily lives and traveling together on vacation, unable to escape each other's idiosyncrasies, foibles and inclination to be a drama queen. The result is a hilarious, uplifting roller coaster ride through uncommon, exotic destinations where common, human confrontations between two extremely independent and opinionated individuals can't help but clash, and how they have successfully weathered those situations for over twenty-five years. Laughter is definitely one of their primary coping mechanisms, provided in plentiful supply throughout the book, which also contains simplistic but valuable advice that any couple, gay or straight, young or old, newlywed or longtime, can benefit by learning how it can make a difference. You are also treated to an insider's look at many destinations you may not get a chance to visit (and, in some cases, be grateful you don't), as well as the couple's "back story" on how they got together, told unexpectedly in an interview by one of Professor Streitmatter's journalism students in China. Well written and thoroughly engaging on several levels, I give the book an inner circle containing five stars out of five. - Bob Lind, Echo Magazine
