Kangaroos ( Animals Are Fun! Series)

Kangaroos ( Animals Are Fun! Series)

by Steve Parish, P. Slater, K. Lovett

Editorial Reviews

This book has some of the best kangaroo pictures I have seen. As a zoo keeper who takes care of tree kangaroos, I really appreciated all the species represented. The large font allows my preschooler to follow along as I point to the words. The educational text helps children learn more each time they read the book. Very appropriate for preschool and early readers, this is a book that the whole family can enjoy. Part of the "Animals are Fun!" series. 2000, Gareth Stevens Publishing, $12.95. Ages 3 to 8. A very simple text, one statement to a page, is located above full color photographs of kangaroos. Parish invites young readers to take a close look at kangaroos and examine the details of their daily lives. He tells readers that kangaroos are marsupials, that they have a pouch to nurture their young, and that they have many relatives including the wallaroo, quokka and the rock wallaby. These and other facts will delight emergent readers. The final page offers a picture of a kangaroo and identifies some of its physical characteristics. There is a short combination glossary and index. Part of the "Animals Are Fun!" series. 2000 (orig. 1998), Gareth Stevens, Ages 4 to 7, $17.27. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
