Kansas, the first Gotee Records release from singer/songwriter Jennifer Knapp, is an album rarely paralleled in the gospel genre. The edgy yet vulnerable folk-rock and alternative CCM mix serve to create a guitar-driven, almost gritty sound, resulting in comparisons between Knapp and fellow Lillith Fair performers Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge. The project is framed by the a cappella melody "Faithful to Me," which both opens and closes the album. "Undo Me" and "Romans" are clothed in highly rhythmic, acoustic guitar rock, with "Romans" being the more upbeat, less intense of the two. The project's highlight is the song "Hold Me Now." The track, a lyrical parable of sorts, is as close as Knapp comes to a gentle, acoustic ballad. [Gotee's 2008 reissue included seven tracks.]

Jennifer Knapp lifts your spirits when you listen to this album. She has a beautiful and calming voice. It's an amazing cross between folk, christian and pop!
Hi! I just wanted to tell y'all that this here woman is amazing! For one, her life is quite moving in how she has come to know Christ, another is that her voice+lyrics just give you goosebumps from head to toe! I strongly suggest this album and her new album
I was given this music by a great friend of mine who had been in prison. It is the best music I have ever heard, as far as comforting my soul, and calming me when I am upset. You don't have to be religious to listen to it. Jennifer's voice is so perfect for this music, her voice is amazing!
I really like this CD,it tells the truth and if u mess up you need to get down on your knees and pray, so I encourage you to listen to this CD please.
Jennifer Knapp's first major CD, ''Kansas'' touched me as no other Christian music ever has. Beside the fact that her melodies are ''current'', her lyrics teach the biblical principles that many of them are titled for(ie;''Romans'') without being preachy. My only criticism of Ms. Knapp, would be her announciation, which sometimes leads to misheard lyrics. But even that isn't a huge problem, since the lyrics are included with the CD.
I've been waiting a long time to hear a sound like this from a Christian artist. Knapp's acoustic-oriented rock sound struck me as a little different the first time I listened, but it didn't take very many CD spins before I was hooked. Personally, I take issue with the biblical accuracy of lyrical portions in ''Trinity'', but overall this is a hot sound meshed with uncompromising musical verse.
Ten years after first buying this cd, I put Kansas on my iPod and let me tell you, there are few albums that can stand the test of time and seemingly get better with the passing years. After all these years I am still discovering new thoughts and notes on this album that I never caught before. The lyrics are some of the most emotional, vulnerable and theologically sound words ever put to song with the different themes of the book of Romans shining through. This is not your poppy sounding, feel-good lyrics type of music. It is thorough and provoking, yet entertaining at the same time. Come for the rockin "Undo Me" and "Romans" but make sure you stick around for the mellow "Hold Me Now".
Jennifer has a wonderful quality to her voice. She crafts fine melodies and is one of the better Christian artists of the past 10 years, although she is relatively unknown. She can rock, and be tender as well. Sometimes tough, sometimes haunting.
