Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
In the first book of the Babysitter's Little Sister series, Karen is convinced that her next door neighbor, Mrs. Porter, is a witch. Mrs. Porter has frizzy gray hair, wears long black dresses, has a cat named Midnight and mumbles to herself in her herb garden. So when Karen overhears Mrs. Porter telling Midnight that a meeting is set for 12 o'clock, Karen jumps to the conclusion that it is a witches' meeting. By the time Karen realizes she is wrong, it is too late to get herself out of trouble. Writing in the first person, Martin ( Stage Fright ) has created a quirky heroine who is as independent as she is silly. Ages 7-9. ( August )

When I was about six or seven years old, my mom had bought me "Karen's Witch". It was this book that in a sense kicked off my love affair with reading. I felt like I was her best friend and she was just sitting across the room talking with with me like she did with Hannie or Nancy. As I got older, I became more aquainted with her stepsister Kristy and the adventures of "The Babysitter's Club" Those joys stayed with me until I was about 13 or 14. Since then, at the age of 22 I have read many more books and loved most, but this one sticks with me the most because it started my love affair with reading. I reccommend this book for parents who want to give their little girls something special to enjoy for years to come.

Karen is a little brat that needs a good flogging. She thinks her stupid neighbor is a witch. And the little brat trashes her party. She needs a spankin' if you ask me. When i was young and impressoinable i liked these books, but now i think this 6-year-old hodlum is a bad influenxe.
