Overview

New York Times bestselling author Carly Phillips presents her third novel set in the quaint upstate New York town of Serendipity—where fate, fortune and love intertwine…

Police Officer Dare Barron has had a crush on Liza McKnight ever since he was a teenager. But despite his lifelong attraction, the closest he’s ever come to interacting with her is watching Liza regularly bail out her brother at the station. Dare’s dark past with Liza’s brother, Brian, has always kept him from pursuing her.

But suddenly Liza finds herself in need of protection and Dare appoints himself as the man for the job. And while the sizzling attraction between Dare and Liza draws them together, the past that Dare and Brian share threatens to keep the two apart forever.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Bestseller Phillips rounds out her sexy trio of contemporary romances set in Serendipity, N.Y. (after Serendipity and Destiny) with another well-crafted tale. Officer Dare Barron hates dealing with the frequently drunk and disorderly Brian McKnight. The only benefit is seeing Brian’s sister, Liza, as she bails Brian out yet again. When the handsome cop confesses his attraction, Liza tentatively agrees to see where things go despite fretting over her brother being a public nuisance. Liza’s habit of enabling her brother keeps tripping up the relationship, but Dare will do anything to keep her safe when she’s targeted by her brother’s menacing creditors. Phillips creates sympathetic and interesting characters who realistically grow and mature despite their unhappy past actions and experiences. Excellent writing, deft plotting, believable situations, and a satisfying romance add up to a winner. Agents: Kimberly Witherspoon and David Forrer, InkWell Management. (May)

“Carly Phillips’s characters are always believable and I think that’s what makes her books keepers."

Meet the Author

New York Times bestselling author Carly Phillips tossed away her legal briefs and a career as an attorney to become a stay-at-home mom. Within the year, she turned her love of reading into an obsession with writing. More than thirty published novels later, Carly writes sexy contemporary small-town romances, striking a balance between entertainment and emotion, and giving her readers the compelling stories they have come to expect and enjoy. Carly received her undergraduate degree from Brandeis University and is a graduate of Boston University School of Law. When not writing or playing online, Carly loves to read, knit, and spend time with her family. She lives in New York, with her husband, two daughters, and their dogs: Bailey, a soft-coated wheaten terrier, and Brady, a Havanese, who act like additional children.

What a great read! I really enjoyed these Barron brother's. Dare's character while seeming lighthearted and forgiving in the other two novels was actually a tortured sould. Living with something that he couldn't change. Liza's character is so simliar she also carried guilt from the same tragic thing her past plus some more demons. The tug of war that Dare puts Liza through in this book broke my heart a little with each page I turned. I would've smacked him if he was standing nearby. Obviously this book had my emotions on overdrive. I would recommend this book, but it's better if you read the series from the begining.

a little less talk and a lot more action would have improved this book

To much stilted dialogue. Never met a man who acted like this Guy. Enough talk about stunted characters to keep a psychology major happy. I personally would like strong characters with deep emotions. I did not connect with either main character and skimmed a lot. I only finished the book because I paid $7.99 for it. Life is to short to read any more books by this author.

Really enjoyed Dare and Liza's story!
Dare may just be my favorite of the Barron brothers! While he's always been attracted to Liza, he can't stand her brother due to an event in their past. Dare is strong, loyal, needs to give back, and guilt-ridden. Liza feels the need to help her brother since he once saved her. Liza and Dare are great together and it's not as easy relationship with Dare's antagonism toward Brian coming between them. I loved the how the plot unfolded to reveal what was driving Brian's current and past behavior. I loved Karma and the entire cast of characters! I'm looking forward to the next Serendipity book!

    Great

This book is another good edition to this trilogy. Dare is a sweetie but makes me so mad when he takes out his anger and past on Liza. Like all of them a happy ending. I love that it involves the previous brothers and ladies.

These two have baggage with a capital "B". I loved the chemistry between them, and watching them argue was almost as much fun as watching the makeup sessions. I enjoyed getting to see the past couples and of course Tess. It has been awesome to see this family evolve over that past 3 books not only with their romantic relationships but with each other and their new sister. Karma was a wonderful wrap up of the family, with lots of new additions and healing coming full circle. My only complaint was the large amount of editing issues. Names were switched a few times, and punctuation was missing several places, it became about me finding the errors instead of focusing on the story. I do recommend this book, and of course, the editing won't stop me from buying another Carly Phillips book, but in this one, there were more than a few.
