Overview

Kate Weaver returns home to her family’s farm in Apple Lake, Wisconsin, battered and bruised and carrying a secret. She is not yet baptized and has spent the past year at a music conservatory in Milwaukee, living among the English. Music is Kate’s passion, and she is very good, so she faces a difficult choice; she must either give up her family and home to pursue her talents or come home and be baptized and give up on her dreams. And with Nathaniel King, the handsome neighbor boy she grew up with, paying attention to her, the choice of whether to return to school in the fall is even harder. Kate wins a starring role in an upcoming opera, and as she wrestles with pressure from her family and her newfound feelings for Nathaniel, she is also haunted by what happened to her just before she left school: she fought to protect her friends against an angry ex and landed the man in intensive care. Will the consequences of that battle be the end of everything she’s ever wanted? Will Nathaniel wait around while she tries to figure out God’s plan for her life?

Another wonderful story beautifully written by Jennifer Beckstrand  --   I can't say enough about Jennifer's writing style, I have thoroughly enjoyed every book of her's that I've read so far. She pulls you into the story immediately and as she goes on you are right in the thick of it wanting to read the whole book in one sitting. I can highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys Amish or Christian Fiction stories. I now have to buy the next two books in this series, "Rebecca's Rose" and "Miriam's Quilt". Oh Jennifer, why do you do this to me? Really I want to say thank you for writing such good books!

I wasn't sureif I'd like this story at first. It definitely isn't as fun as the Huckleberry Hill series by the same author. But once I started reading, I got pulled into the story. I was eager to see where it would lead. Would she choose love and family? Or would she choose to use her gift for singing to glorify God on the world stage? I could understand why she felt so conflicted. She wanted what God wanted for her, but wasn't sure what the answer was. And then all these people-- friends and family pushing their opinions on her and about her. It was so frustrating. But a really good book.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK Kate’s Song is such a heartwarming story because Kate struggles between her singing and her Amish faith. Her main interest is God’s will for her life, but just what is His will? Is it her singing career or at home in her Amish community? And the Ordnung will not allow her to have both. Kate’s journey is a difficult one as she struggles to make a decision. Jennifer Beckstrand is a new author for me, and I am very glad I had the opportunity to read and review Kate’s Song. I love how each author of Amish fiction has their own twist on their stories, and I love the writing style and the new twist on Amish fiction from Ms. Beckstrand! I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in this story, though some of them were frustrating at times! Kate was a sweetheart and of course I wanted the best for her, whatever it was! I love how the author weaves the story together with the Amish faith, worldly lifestyle with Kate’s music, the love of family, her struggles and difficulties, along with her faith in God, and the happiness she finds through following what God’s wants for her life. Kate’s Song is writing at it’s best, and I look forward to reading more books by author Jennifer Beckstrand! I received this book from the author, Jennifer Beckstrand to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.

Well written story a little different than most Amish stories. Just when you think you know how the story will end, there is a twist to the plot. Will poor Kate survive this twist?

This was first book I have read by this author. She does an excellent portrayal of Amish lifestyle. I particularly liked that she did not 'cookie-cutter' like so many Amish based stories. The characters in this Amish community vary in personality. The main character is at an age she is seeking life outside the community to help her as she seeks God's will as to whether she is to be of baptized into to Amish church. The storyline flows easily allowing the reader to see several viewpoints without being preachy. Once the story got about two-thirds done it tooks some very predictable, almost ridiculous rabbit trails. Several chapters thereafter the story tries to follow that line and it is just a bit hard to see a series of half dozen events take place to keep the main character from fulfilling her purpose. One of the strengths of the books is seeimg the main character thinking through and praying through an answer to what God would have her do? It should a realistic relationship between a believer and God and how that dialogue often goes I would read this author again gladly!
