In developing these hands-on projects, Kathy Ross drew on her thirty years' experience as a preschool teacher and curriculum developer. Each of the twenty easy-to-make crafts features step-by-step illustrated instructions, and is made from easy-to-find household materials.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The author has several craft books to her credit and this one is equally fun. This time she has taken numbers and giving the reader crafts to make with each digit out of simple household items. A particular favorite is Mama Foot-Long Worm and Her Twelve Baby Inchworms, all made from rickrack trim, wiggle eyes and glue. Then one can use the inchworms to measure one's hands, feet, or pencils. There are suggestions for helping children learn the days of the week and marking calendars with special events in their lives or popular holidays. The reader will see a different way of looking at numbers. I never had associated two-hole reinforcement tabs with the head and body of a bunny before, or four heart shapes with a four-leaf clover, or the number three becoming bear's ears. Time to get a larger storage box for household things that could be crafted into many different learning tools with the help of Ms. Ross' books. 2003, The Millbrook Press,

Gr 1-4-This companion volume to Kathy Ross Crafts Letter Shapes, Kathy Ross Crafts Letter Sounds, and Kathy Ross Crafts Triangles, Rectangles, Circles, and Squares! (all Millbrook, 2002) features fun creations that involve counting and measurement and whimsical, child-friendly artwork. For visual learners, there is also an illustrated supply list for each project. The 20 activities include a four-leaf clover necklace, a five-point star magnet, a play alarm clock, calendar markers, coin-wrapper puppets, and playing-card counters. Though they look easy, a few of the activities are too complex for young children and there are no recommendations for adult supervision. Some supplies will require purchase but most are common household or craft-box items. A worthy collection of crafts that incorporates early math skills.-Susannah Price, Boise Public Library, ID Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
