Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Nancy Garhan Attebury
Katie and her parents need to go to the mall to get a new TV, since their old one quit in the middle of a good whale show, and since her mom needs a new party dress. Katie is up for the trip. As always, adventure seems to find her. At the mall she hunts for a lost boy in the store and tries on disguises to see how she would look if she were a TV star. However, unbeknownst to her, she loses track of her dad and mom while she hunts for the boy. Her hunting is successful and she takes the boy to the Lost and Found as directed by a loud speaker. But the nice worker there tells Katie that a girl named Katie Woo is now lost. Katie clarifies the situation and is reunited with her happy parents. This book from the "Katie Woo" series packs a lot of activity and fun into three short chapters. Sentences are short and are easily readable. Colorful illustrations closely accompany and add to the text. The situation is one that youngsters can easily understand and it seems certain they would like to be in Katie's shoes when she solves this simple mystery. Teachers and parents will find that activities and other material to go with the book can be downloaded from the publisher's site. This stretches the pleasure of the book for kids and adults. This book and others in the series offer an excellent reading experience. Reviewer: Nancy Garhan Attebury

Meet the Author

Fran Manushkin is the author of many popular picture books, including Baby, Come Out!; Latkes and Applesauce: A Hanukkah Story; The Tushy Book; The Belly Book; and Big Girl Panties. There is a real Katie Woo — she's Fran's great-niece — but she never gets in half the trouble of the Katie Woo in the books. Fran writes on her beloved Mac computerin New York City, without the help of her two naughty cats, Chaim and Goldy.

Tammie Lyon began her love for drawing at a young age while sitting at the kitchen table with her dad. She continued her love of art and eventually attended The Columbus College of Art and Design, where she earned a Bachelors degree in Fine Art. After a brief career as a professional ballet dancer, she decided to devote herself full time to illustration. Today she lives with her husband, Lee, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her dogs, Gus and Dudley, keep her company as she works in her studio.
