Overview

Katie’s having the worst day ever: she’s been dragged down to the police station for abandoning her son, a cute kid with big brown eyes. Only Katie doesn’t have a son. She’s never seen the five year old boy in her life, despite the insistence of the police, her doctor, even her own sister. She thinks she’s gone completely crazy until the five year old living in her house tells her his secret: he’s a baby immortal, and his guardians were supposed to wipe her mind so she’d forget he didn’t belong to her and raise him as hers. But Katie is immune to the power of immortals, and they don't react well to this discovery. Katie winds up in Hell, where she meets Rhyn, who recognizes her as an immortal's mate - and his key out of Hell.

Rhyn is a misunderstood immortal, the youngest of the seven Ancients, sentenced to Hell after accidentally almost destroying the world. Katie’s immunity to immortals creates an opportunity for them to escape Hell, so he snatches her and flees. At first, Katie despises the man who treats her like a portable food source, until she finds out he’s the only one willing and able to protect her from the dangers of the immortal world. Rhyn discovers that his little human has heart. With horror, he discovers she’s not destined to be any immortal's mate- she's destined to be his mate. He has no idea how to care for someone else let alone control his power, but he must learn, as his little human is endangered by both good and bad immortals determined to use her to their advantage.

Young Adult fiction. Mature teens only.

You HAVE to read this book!

If you have any of Lizzy's Ford's other books and you thought they were ok or you really like them, well, you will LOVE this one. It a sense it kind of reminded me of Damian's Oracle but I think I liked Katie's character a little bit more. The book was filled with excitement and twists, and of course the paranormal romance Lizzy is so good at. I highly recommend this book! Download now before she gets smart and starts charging for her books!!!

    Worth sticking with

This has to be the roughest beginning to a book ever. Fantastic story, terrible execution. But it does get better. And I went from " thank goodness there aren't more pages..." to " I need the next book now!!!!!" Talk about a comeback! But seriously, an editor needs to get their awesome hands on this story pronto....

    Worth pushing thru

The beginning is way confusing, the first thirty pages make no sense at first and ask the reader to blindly accept a lot. But if you can persevere thru, the book really starts to come together. I enjoyed it immensely. There's a rich variety in characters. And after the first book I honestly have no idea where the plot will take this series.

There's is no romance until possibly the last few chapters of nearly 900 pages. Katie spends the entire time drunk and 'blurry' instead of dealing with anything and the Immortals are immature to say the least. Rhyn is the most annoying. Free will is a big thing but I find it ridiculous coming from beings who clearly can't stand and/or understand humans. Even saying all this I still find I want to know what happens but I refuse to pay for it. I'd only read the Katie's Hope if it were free.

    Good book

I loved this storyline and the fresh take on immortals and mates. I enjoyed the characters but i found it hard to connect with the main character katie. I tried very hard to like her but she was very irritating to me at times. Despite this i will continue to read the trilogy and hopefully she'll grow on me. I would also recommend this book for reading.

    Loved it!

My favorite books are most of the time about either some sort of greek mythology input or supernatural. This was a perfect combination of both and I have to say that even though I think the book was too short for my tastes I can't wait to read the rest of the series! The author did a wonderful job at the sory plot. I almost felt like I was actually there! I would refer this book to mature readers and would say that it is not for young children. Lizzy Ford developd the characters well and it was very hard NOT to get sucked into the story! I look forward to reading more from the author and hope that others would enjoy the book as much as I have! I hope those who have read this review thought it helpful and received some much needed information before reading, enjoy!
Oh, and P.S. the book is only 166 pages, but it does list the names of the other books in the series.

    Ok

Some backstory would be really great. The author has developed an intricate world and dumped you in the middle of it with no explanation and the main character is too busy guzzling whiskey to ask any questions! Very frustrating!

    Was okay

It was okay. It was hard to like the characters. Katie is always drinking or hung over and she's only eighteen years old in the book! I liked her spunk, but just bothered me that she's always wanting whiskey throughout the story. Yeah, she's going through a lot and has to deal with some rough things, but I would've liked to have seen her inner strength come from within rather than from alcohol. I also did not like how graphic some parts were...a little too much violence/gore. Yes, this is a story about redemption, but was hard to care whether Rhyn/Katie overcome everything. Rhyn is cruel and mean and Katie is an alcoholic. Also wished this book would have been able to stand alone instead of ending on a cliffhanger, almost as if I was missing the last chapter or something. I understand it's a trilogy, but it just wasn't to my taste. I won't read the rest of the books because I really don't care about what happens to these characters...again, they were hard to like.

I have to admit I was a bit lost in the beginning of the book, but eventually it all started coming together for me.  There was quite a bit of action and enough of a plot that it held my interest.  I like that it wasn't a typical love/soul mate situation that Katie and Rhyn shared.  There were a few characters that I wish I could have personally strangled myself, just based on their personalites, but there were others that I really liked and cheered for.  And the fact that Death is a female......loved it!  Looking foward to the next book. Though I do recommend this book, I found it to be just a good read.

    worth reading

A little bit difficult to understand in the very beginning, but worth reading, so much so that I read another book by same author. But I notice with both that they end a bit abruptly.
