Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Mary Hynes-Berry
For over sixty years young children have identified with Katy the snowplow who was always waiting for her big chance to plow her way to fame. For winter after winter, Katy has few opportunities to show off until the year of a big blizzard. Now Katy is challenged to keep chug, chug, chugging her way to rescue the citizens of Geopolis, helping all kinds of stranded people get to the hospital, to the airport, and, of course, to get safely home. This reissue of the story in paperback form is fancied up a bit with sparkle on the cover and stickers at the back. Children will certainly enjoy these add-ons but in the end, they are not necessary. It is Burton's tribute to perseverance and her wonderful sketchy drawings that will make yet another generation of children eager to hear the adventures of Katy again and again. Meet the Author

Virginia Lee Burton (1909-1968) was the talented author and illustrator of some of the most enduring books ever written for children. The winner of the 1942 Caldecott Medal for THE LITTLE HOUSE, Burton's books include heroes and happy endings, lively illustrations, and a dash of nostalgia. She lived with her two sons, Aristides and Michael, and her husband George Demetrios, the sculptor, in a section of Gloucester, Massachusetts, called Folly Cove. Here she taught a class in design and from it emerged the Folly Cove designers, a group of internationally known professional artisans. She is the author of many classic children's picture books, including MIKE MULLIGAN AND HIS STEAM SHOVEL and KATY AND THE BIG SNOW.

I picked this book because of the name, which is the same as my grandaughter. The story is great and gives positive feed back for the child reading.

I was excited to share this book with my kids as I enjoyed this as a child. Unfortunately this electronic version is very poorly done. You cannot see the illustrations very well at all. The first thing I did upon purchasing was to look for a way to get my money back.

Great original book, but this ebook is of very poor quality. My home scanner could produce higher quality scans! Pictures are small and text runs over into blank pages. Stick with the traditional version for this classic.

An absolute favorite! This book was a diamond-in-the-rough for our family. We first received this book as a gift recycled from a daycare classroom. It has become our favorite along with all of Ms. Burton's books. Great book that NEVER gets boring!

This book shows children that if you work hard and smart that good will always come of it.
