Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
A Lassie story set in the Pacific Northwest instead of Scotland, Kävik the sled dog is part wolf and part malamute. His owner recognizes his great strength and courage and uses him to win a major sled race. After his success, Kävik is sold to a rich man who wants to fly his winning dog to Seattle. The plane crashes and the dog is rescued and cared for by a young boy named Andy. He is returned to his rightful owner, but Kävik is not happy. The rest of the story deals with Kävik's struggle to escape from Seattle and return to the boy he loves. Told from Kävik's perspective, it is an exciting narrative of courage, perseverance, and love. 1997 (orig.

I'am not much for wolves, but this touched my heart.

I just finished reading this book on Friday, and it was awesome, I especially liked how the author described how the dogs fought for the mate, and how the dog never knew he had travled over one of the biggest glaciers in Alaska. I dont like wolves in general, but this book touched my heart, and thats hard to do.

    2nd generation book

I read this when I was in elementary school and loved it! I grew up with huskies and dogsleds, so that made it even better, but it's a great story either way. Now I am getting it for my 9 year old son. Highly recommended!

    Wolf fan

I was looking through all of my teacher's books and asked if I could borrow this book and she said yes. It is an old faded book with a different cover as this one, but, It's Good! Thank you Walt Morey!

A book I have never forgotten

I read this book as a when I was a young girl. It was a wonderful book and I highly recommend it for all young readers, especially dog lovers. I am now purchasing it for my 11 year old daughter, knowing she will love it as much as I did.

    Truley a Great Book

I loved every minute of this book. I hadn't read it before because I never got to it but hey this book(even for a 15 yr old) is really good. I love how the boy has such a strong relationship with Kavik. It shows just how strong the bond between man and man's best friend can be!

    Heartstopping and Full of Action

This is probably the best book I have ever read. I am a 16 year old high schooler and I appreciated every minute of the book. This book is one that will leave you at the edge of your seat. I belive that once you start reading the book you will not want to put it down. I can't believe all the action and all of the suprising twists and turns of the story. I give this book two very big thumbs up.

    Kavik is a Classic

This book was read to me as a child and I have never forgotten it! It sparked my interest in reading. If I could start a children's book club this book would be on the list. It is wonderful!

    Best Boy/ Dog Story Ever!

I had a teacher read Kavik to me when I was in 5th grade. Now, I am reading it to 5th graders myself. The book is intense! The kids stay foucused, and are rooting for Kavik all the way! Highly recommedned for adults and kids alike. For anyone who's loved a dog, this book is for you.

    Amazing Adventure Through The Wild...

Although I read this book early in the 6th grade [I'm now in 7th],and have very poor memory,I still remember that this was one of the best books I have ever read. It has the qualities of White Fang, with a little bit of Lassie sprinkled here and there. I especially love how vividly the author describes the characters and their different moods!

    Kavik is INTENSE!!!!!!!!!

I thought Kavik's a very superb book. It was about a dog who had to make his way through 2000 miles of back country after being taken from his owner. I really enjoyed Kavik because it was very intense and I kept wanting to see if he would be okay. Once I stated reading it I couldn't put it down. I also recommend the book to kids and adults alike.

I am twentynine now and I read it to my children all the time. Buy it, read it, you'll like it. i promise.
