Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Janice DeLong
Tom and Elenna, a young boy and girl, together pursue their quest to free the good beasts from the bad in the Dark Realm. Their mission this time is to destroy Kaymon the Gorgon Hound. On their way they meet one adventure hot upon another: deadly flowers, binding chains, evil castles, slimy moats, prisoners in dungeons, as well as horribly beset animal friends. Throughout the adventures, Tom's magic boots, jewels, and his trusty shield help him to win breathless victory. Without question, there is action in this small book. However, there is no real plot; there is certainly no character development, and with the near constant crisis mode, there is no time for readers to develop any empathy with the characters or to visualize the setting. Chapters are short and include a lot of exclamations like, "Come on!" or, "I will end this Quest!" The appeal here may be to reluctant readers, but the reader who thinks, won't while reading this volume. Clearly, this Book Sixteen in the "Beast Quest" series is formula fiction for the young fantasy follower, but it is not literature by any stretch of the imagination. Pun intended. Meet the Author

Adam Blade is in his late twenties, and was born in Kent, England. His parents were both history teachers and amateur artists, and Adam grew up surrounded by his father's paintings of historic English battles which left a lifelong mark on his imagination. He was also fascinated by the ancient sword and shield that hung in his father's office. Adam’s father said they were a Blade family heirloom.

Sadly, Adam does not have his own Ice Dragon or Ghost Panther. But he really wishes he did!
