Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Trina Heidt
Catherine Corey Keegan Dana, or Keeker, and her pony Plum are so bored. They haven't been able to ride for days on account of mud season in Vermont. When the weather finally begins to cooperate, they can't help but go out for a ride. While out, they learn that a mysterious newcomer has purchased the long-vacant Crab Apple Hill Farm. Being a little girl with a big imagination, Keeker takes Plum over to investigate and finds herself a little spooked by her discoveries. What she finds is an eccentric old woman living by herself and cooking up mysterious concoctions in a little shack on the farm. Keeker willingly wonders, as her imagination gets the best of her, if this new woman might be a witch. She soon finds out, however, that looks can and often are very deceiving. Young girls ready to read intermediate chapter books will find a lot to love about Keeker and her mischievous pony. They will be able to relate easily to her and they will learn some valuable lessons along the way.
