Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Dia L. Michels
What danger is there in a horse that runs only at the sound of the words "Thank goodness!"? Are there any lumberjacks in the Sahara Desert? How can you tell that clocks are shy? What do ghosts eat for dessert? Louis Phillips has gathered into one book a host of good-humored jokes for the reader to memorize and share-complete with one-liners, knock-knocks, dialogues, funny stories, and numerous puns. This book of jokes is a refreshing source of light-hearted entertainment for the young and the young at heart.
School Library Journal
Gr 3-5Another collection of jokes, puns, knock-knocks, and riddles from this prolific author. However, unlike many of the earlier titles, this one is not organized around a particular theme. Phillips tells oldies but goodies as well as new jokes on current topics such as computers, car phones, and answering machines. Animated and cartoonlike pen-and-ink drawings punctuate the text. Readers won't be able to tell which is funnier, the punch lines or the inspired silliness of the pictures. This book should be praised for its honesty in advertising: the subtitle says it all.Blair Christolon, Prince William Library, Manassas, VA
Hazel Rochman
In addition to the usual knock-knock jokes, nonsense rhymes, put-downs, trick questions, puns ("Tarzan stripes forever" ), and groaners, this collection includes vignettes to read aloud or act out in front of an audience. The black-and-white illustrations were unseen in galley, but the full-color cartoon cover gets across the foolishness and zest of performer and audience.
