A sizzling story of a woman who risks her life and her heart to find a wealthy man’s missing sister—the first novel in a sexy new romantic suspense series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks

When Caleb Devereaux's younger sister is kidnapped, this scion of a powerful and wealthy family turns to an unlikely source for help: a beautiful and sensitive woman with a gift for finding answers others cannot.

While Ramie can connect to victims and locate them by feeling their pain, her ability comes with a price. Every time she uses it, it costs her a piece of herself. Helping the infuriatingly attractive and impatient Caleb successfully find his sister nearly destroys her. Even though his sexual intensity draws her like a magnet, she needs to get as far away from him as she can.

Deeply remorseful for the pain he’s caused, Caleb is determined to make things right. But just when he thinks Ramie's vanished forever, she reappears. She’s in trouble and she needs his help. Now, Caleb will do risk everything to protect her—including his heart. . . .

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Banks (Taking It All) launches the Slow Burn contemporary romantic suspense series with a bone-shivering, edge-of-your-seat jaunt through present-day Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas. Caleb Devereaux's unlimited resources are useless in finding the vanished Ramie St. Claire until, a year after her disappearance, he receives her urgent appeal for help. Caleb is forever grateful that Ramie's psychic abilities saved his kidnapped sister, Tori; genuinely sorrowful after seeing Ramie, in a trance-like state, suffer the same perverse punishment that the kidnapper put Tori through; and seriously pissed that the perpetrator got away and continues to stalk Ramie. Caleb scoops Ramie up, brings her to his state-of-the-art security home, and vows to keep her safe. Her fragile beauty has touched Caleb's heart, adding another dimension to his protective mode. Ramie's past makes it hard for her to trust, but she cannot deny her growing attraction to Caleb. Meanwhile, the stalker enjoys taunting, stumping, terrorizing and getting bolder with all who interfere with his obsession with Ramie. She and Caleb concoct a bold plan, but it gets sabotaged, placing the couple in their worst nightmare scenario. This dark, edgy tale will scare and titillate readers, though it may also leave them itching with curiosity about Ramie's mind-linking psychic abilities. (Oct.)

I got to page 200 of 259, and I just cannot do it! This book is so effin stupid that I'm almost laughing if I wasn't so pissed. This authors' books have been going downhill for some time now, yet I keep hoping, so I keep buying. Everything in this book is completely unbievable! Sorry Maya, I'm done!!

The Slow Burn Series if off to an amazing start! I can't wait for Beau's story, which is the next installment in this series. It took me sometime to get comfortable with Caleb's siblings, but by the end of the book I wanted to learn more about them. Ramie St.Claire has a gift that can help others. But, that gift sends her running. When Caleb Devereaux's sister goes missing, he will do everything in his power to find her. He knows that Ramie can help him find her. When Caleb sees what Ramie went through to find his sister, he is devastated. He wants to help her in any way that he can. When Ramie finds herself on the run again, she can't go forward without Caleb's help. As the days go by, Caleb is determined to protect and help Ramie.  I really liked Ramie and Caleb. I have to admit that I connected with them individually pretty fast, but it took me some time to get used to them as a couple. I only felt the chemistry between them grow more towards the end of the book. I'm the kind of reader that loves instant chemistry, but with a slow building romance. I did not expect Caleb to fall so hard for Ramie. It almost took no time for him to let her know how he felt. They only met on one occasion before Ramie came back into his life. It was too fast in my opinion to talk about the feelings he had for her. I can't deny that he was exactly what Ramie needed. He cared for her, he protected her and he gave her a real home. Caleb brought her comfort and peace. She so desperately wanted peace for once in her life. With Caleb by her side she can finally have good dreams. One thing that was awesome about Keep Me Safe - there is no easing you into the action. No foreplay or stage setting. In chapter one, we see the extent of Ramie's abilities and the forceful, commanding presence that Caleb has. It's a powerful combination, and it sucks you into the story immediately. There's no opportunity to get bored or lost. You're thrust into the action while being introduced to the characters all within the first 10 pages or so. All the psychicness in the story was pretty awesome too. It was a different take on that particular characteristic, and really interesting. It caused some nail biter scenes in the book where I was yelling at the characters. I love yelling at my books. It means I'm into the story enough to care. That's always a good thing. The Slow Burn Series if off to an amazing start! I can't wait for Beau's story, which is the next installment in this series. It took me sometime to get comfortable with Caleb's siblings, but by the end of the book I wanted to learn more about them.

Reiterating charactor motivation over and over again does not make a story line stronger or more enjoyable or entertaining. Pages and pages of the same motivation is annoying. The story line is poor. Characters fail to engage with eachother in a solid & believeable way . Fiction can be so cool, this story isn't. M Banks has written much better stuff than this. $8 - not happy.........

## Just so-so. Don't get me wrong, the suspense is good, it's the romance (or lack thereof) that sucked. I loved that the book started out with a bang right off the bat instead of pages and pages of set-up information. HOWEVER, it became extremely repetitive. I could've cut out 100 pages and it would've had the same result. No way could these two fall in love under these circumstances. He felt obligated because of his guilt and she had nowhere else to go, so they latched on to each other. How could he desire her when he described her as much too skinny and sickly and pale? I don't know what happened but even the few sex scenes there were, weren't good. I have to say pass.

This book is total crap. Story line is weak. Character development poor. Characters just drop into the story with no intro. I have been a Maya Banks fan for years but the last few offerings I have read have been a total disappointment. I would be surprised if she even read them let alone wrote them. What a waste of my hard earned cash.

I have been a fan of Maya Banks for years, but I have never read anything of hers that had a suspense/thriller aspect so I was pretty excited to dive right in.  Off the bat you get a great feel for what the book will be about and I was intrigued with the psychic abilities of Ramie and the passion Caleb showed to get what he needed. Keep Me Safe was fast paced, everything happens quickly after the first chapter and it is a lot to take in at times.  I liked the idea of this story, but somewhere along the way I got annoyed with the characters.  There are a lot of players in this story and it took a while to sort through them all, then there was the almost instant love from Caleb that had me losing interest and groaning.   Maya Banks can write a fabulous story, Keep Me Safe was very different from her normal writing though.  While the story was entertaining I was missing that heat and chemistry you usually find with her books.  Keep Me Safe had lots of elements in it that usually aren't my thing (psychic, almost paranormal connections, violence, etc.) I was able to get lost in the story up until the shocking end and after that these characters were just was too much for me (It was quite the twist so I won't spoil you).   If you are a fan of Maya Banks, be ready for a twist on her usual books or if you like a good book with serial killers, psychics and instant love then this book (the series most likely) will be a great match for you.  While I wasn't too keen on this story, I will be curious to see what happens in the series and will pick up the next book, In His Keeping, coming  in early 2015.

Always hoping for something to change, not just greater & greater abuse, I kept turning the page. At one point I thought about archiving it without finishing it. Instead skimming became my coping mechanism. I wish I had archived it when I first thought about it as the ending was totally implausible. -s.

I could almost handle the 100% unrealistic plot- except that this story was so repetitive that it ruined the book! The book is 259 pages- 200 of those were completely unnecessary. Authors do still use editors, right? If so, someone needs to start to actually edit the redundancy out of this story line. What a waste of money.

I decided to make this purchase because of the overview. It seemed like my kind of book. But I barely could make it through. Constantly the character motivations are repeated over and over and over...and just when you think its done...its repeated one more time. The idea of the book was great but I'm afraid that Maya Banks just put her brainstorming or rough drafts together and called it a book. I loved the sweet series. I love the kgi series....but this book was a waste of 7.00. Also the book was confusing. "I'm ready to give up Caleb let me die..." to "don't you see Caleb I have to fight him." The brothers are all like " we owe Ramie a lot for what she did for Tori.." to "" she can't be here so let's be mean to her." With hardly no explanation as to why the mood changes. so all in all if your interested in reading a book about bi polar repetative psychics sufffering from ptsd this is the book for you.

The only thing I liked about this book was the story about a man helping a woman and protecting her from further harm, story got redundant and the language got irritatkng, would not recommend this to anyone, sorry Maya

Love the book. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. Loved the suspense. Will read the trilogy.

Dialogue was stiff. Much of the book seemed to take place in the characters heads. A lot of thinking not enough showing. Couldn't finish the book.

I am a big fan of Maya Banks and was looking forward to this read. There's only one word to describe this novel: redundant. For the first time reading one of Maya's books I had to force myself to finish it. She phoned this one in! Poor character development and an achingly slow storyline made this a painful read. I will not be finishing this series, and don't know that I'll purchase her next series either. Awful, just awful.

Sort of unbelievable from a romantic standpoint. Anticlimactic.

I love Maya Banks writing but this book just lacked something like the romance aspect between Caleb and Ramie.

I got to page 93 before giving up on this book. I have never read a story so repetitive!! The characters feelings were repeated every other page. Feelings over a sneeze would have gotten a chapter alone had it happened.

As others have said, this book is so repetitive I think the characters have no short term memory. They keep thinking and saying the same things over and over again - and often right after they said it previously. Boring. And I paid $9 for this!

Loved it

Love Ms. Banks work but this book had me nashing my teeth together. Most of the book was narrative than for the live of God went on and on and most of it repetitive. Fid not enjoy this read at all.

The book wasn't terrible, but I think it was one of the author's worst books. It was frustrating because the characters kept saying the same things over and over.

Good but not her Maya's best work. I guessing that she has a new editor.

Boring and extremely repetitive. I didnt care for the characters at all. I archived it halfway through the book.

I am a huge Maya Banks fan and was eagerly awaiting this new series. In this book Caleb isn't very likable, but the story had potential, and then it seemed to pick up steam. And then...holy crap!!! And not in a good way. The story took such horrible and twisted  turn that  it just ruined the book for me.
