Overview

The dramatic conclusion of a mind-blowing trilogy.

On the previous book in this series: "A compelling tale with strongly drawn characters... enthralling details about the world [Foon] has created." -- VOYA

Two years have passed since Roan fled the destruction of his village in the novel Freewalker. He has survived the polluted wilds of the Devastation, escaped the lethal mind traps of the Dreamfield, and infiltrated the heart of the sinister City. Through it all, Roan has struggled to hold fast to Longlight's legacy of peace. But now an unimaginable evil looms, and violence seems unavoidable.

Darius, the Keeper of the City, is enraged by the escape of Roan's sister Stowe. Yet despite the loss of his sacrificial prodigy, Darius' malevolent reign continues to push the entire realm to the brink of destruction. As Roan and his trusted friend Lumpy struggle to unite disparate peoples in a war against the City, it becomes clear that any chance of victory must include Stowe. But is her battered psyche damaged beyond all hope?

The Keeper's Shadow completes the engrossing saga of The Longlight Legacy, a powerful chronicle of how untold destruction can result from accommodating evil and the violence it spawns.

VOYA - Mary Ann Darby
It is not the appearance of a thing that matters, but what it contains, what lies within. Foon's theme for Longlight is stated and modeled throughout this last thought-provoking volume of a fine trilogy, The Longlight Legacy. Readers will follow Roan, Lumpy, Stowe, and hosts of others as they realize that only by combining their disparate forces and following the prophecies will they be able to overcome the powerful and hideous Keeper of the City, Darius. As Roan continues in his role of the reluctant hero, he travels both the lands and the Dreamfield to unite the Brothers, the Apsara, the Hhroxhi, the Storytellers, and the Gunthers. The finale brings bitter losses as well as a final victory that heals both the City and the ravaged Dreamfield. The inclusion of summaries of books one and two at the beginning of this third tale as well as an annotated list of main characters will help jog eager readers' memories without having to reread the first two volumes. Characters are developed even more thoroughly, and the complex and multilayered story will satisfy Longlight fans as the tale unravels mysteries and ties together plot strands but also carries a twist or two of the unexpected. Foon creates a strong trilogy that will entice thoughtful readers, including both junior and senior high school fantasy/science fiction fans.

Meet the Author

Dennis Foon is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and novelist. His previous young adult novels include Double or Nothing, Skud and the previous titles in The Longlight Legacy: The Dirt Eaters and Freewalker. He lives in Vancouver, British Columbia. About the The Longlight Legacy, Foon says, "I've long been distressed by the notion of revenge and how it has justified the most horrific cycles of violence known to humankind. On the most basic level, The Longlight Legacy is about dealing with loss and the effect it has on all of us."
