Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Read and learn about cleanliness in Keeping Clean which is one book in the "Let's Read and Talk About" series that addresses one's health, well-being, and care. The contents of the book are divided into chapters. Each chapter begins with a general question with a response in bold print followed by two or three additional questions involving further details. In the chapter titled, "What About Clean Hands?" the readers learn that washing hands helps to prevent the spreading of germs. Using a question and answer format there is an explanation of why and when hands should be washed along with cleaning fingernails. There are color photographs and illustrations with captions to provide some support to the reading. The "Talk About" sidebars list a few questions for further discussion and the "Take Action" sidebars provide suggestions to support keeping clean. A glossary of terms is included at the back of the book along with an index. There is no content consultant listed. This book provides a means to discuss general hygiene with children. Teachers may find the book to make a nice addition to a health care unit. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
