Keeping Secrets in Seattle by Brooke Moss

Seattle hairstylist Violet Murphy always knew the day would come when her best friend Gabe Parker would want to settle down. She’d secretly wished it would be with her, but now that he’s chosen someone else—the prim, perfect Alycia—he wants Vi to be his best man.

Healing her broken heart isn’t easy, but when Violet meets Landon Harlow, a man who isn’t fazed by her funky style and less-than-delicate attitude, she takes a step in the right direction. Until Gabe’s fiancé’s gorgeous façade begins to crack, and Violet’s disturbing past comes back to haunt her, that is. Vi now finds herself armed with a series of lies that would break Gabe’s heart—and his engagement—if he knew their truth, and a secret from their childhood that could change everything.

With the wedding looming, her relationships unraveling, and the bachelor party of the century to plan, Violet must choose between a fresh start with Landon, or confronting her painful past and risking it all for a chance at a future with Gabe.

Violet and Gabe have been best friends since they were six years

Violet and Gabe have been best friends since they were six years old. As they got older, Violet’s feelings for Gabe started to grow. Unfortunately for Violet, they are not together. One day Violet decides to make her intentions known to Gabe; however Gabe has other things planned for that evening. Like announcing to his family that he is engaged to Alicia, the woman he has been seeing for the past four months.
Heartbroken and inconsolable, her friends/roommates Betsy and Kim convince her that she needs to move on with her life and forget about Gabe. Enter Landon Harlow. A gorgeous guy with a killer smile who just happens to be her type.
Landon turns out to be a great guy and Vi is practically swept off her feet. But as they begin a relationship, Vi needs to figure out if Landon can really help her get over her childhood crush for good or if she should risk it all and tell Gabe her true feelings.

    What I liked:
Each chapter begins with a part of Vi’s past journals from when she was in high school. That added more to the story and helped to understand Violet’s character better as well as the big secret she was keeping.
I loved Violet. She is a feisty and strong character. She is stronger than she believes she is. And her fashion style is as cool and funky as her personality.
Even though Violet is in a relationship with Landon and not with Gabe, I sort of felt like she was leading Landon on. She isn’t being completely honest and is still harboring feelings for Gabe. And at times her and Gabe’s relationship was a little inappropriate for them being just friends.

    Final thoughts:
Before I began reading this book, I was expecting a light-hearted read with a similar plot/ story-line as the movie “Made of Honor” with Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan. Instead what I got was something with more depth and a lot more entertainment than I was expecting. Keeping Secrets in Seattle is a cute, funny, and a bit of an emotional read. There was a moment or two when I cried a little. I liked it more than I thought I would.

**ARC provided for honest review** I have a confession to make.

    **ARC provided for honest review**

I have a confession to make...

    I cheated!

I have become one of those people who looks at the back of the book to see how it is going to end! I am so ashamed. But I just could not help it! This book was causing my heart to hurt and I couldn't take it anymore. I HAD TO KNOW!! And once I did, I was able to resume reading as if I didn't sneak that peek. Wow, okay now that I have that out of the way I feel so much better. On to the book....

Have you ever seen the movie My Best Friend's Wedding? Julia Roberts flick from back in the late 90's? Well, anyway this book reminds me a little of that movie. Best friends since forever, one is now getting married, the other realizes they love their BFF as more and tries to sabotage the wedding. But this book takes that story line to a whole new level.

Gabe and Violet have loved each other as more than friends since, well forever. They met on the playground in kindergarten and have been BFF's since that day.

They attempted the whole dating thing in high school but it didn't pan out. And the teenagers that they were, the reason why it didn't work was let go of too easily. There is more to it all then meets the eye but I am not going to spoil it for you. This is where I say "you are just going to have to read the book!".

Years later, Violet is still madly in love with Gabe but he suddenly turns up engaged after dating someone for only a few months. Naturally Violet is devastated and slips into a bit of depression. But with the help of her very persistent roommates (who I loved by the way!!) she is able to shake off the funk. Well a little anyway. And a night out dancing turns into the a new beginning for her.

Violet meets Landon and is immediately attracted to him. He is everything a girl could want. He is a major hottie. And as sweet as candy. i am talking opens doors for her, calls or text just to say hi and that he is thinking of her. But best of all, he wants HER. He is perfect, right?! All Violet can think though, is he sure is no Gabe.

And Gabe...well he lets his feelings shine through with his reaction to Violet's new relationship. Just little comments here and there made me wanna shake him and say, if you love her then why are you marrying someone else?!?!?! But despite those glimpses we get of his obvious love for Violet, Gabe proceeds with the wedding plans. Even going so far as to ask Violet to be his best man, err I mean woman.

See where my dilemma came from and why I HAD to look to the back before I was finished?!?!

On the one hand, Violet has this really great guy who is perfect for her in so many ways. But then on the other hand, I kept wondering if she would sabotage things with Landon because of her feelings for Gabe. So, the question now Whay will she do? And what are these secrets from the past that are mentioned in the summary?

You are going to have to read the book!! And believe me, you want to! With this book you get....

    Mild heat
    First love
    New love
    HEA
    NO CLIFF HANGER

I love when a book leaves me feeling like I just had one of the

I love when a book leaves me feeling like I just had one of the most wonderful moments in life. It's magical to read a book that gets inside you. This was no exception. Violet Murphy and Gabe Parker have been best friends and loved each other since they were kids but seemed to miss their moment in time due to a misunderstanding. Each chapter begins with a journal entry from Violet's past. both her and Parker had tried taking their relationship to another level when they were 16 but something happened that hurt them both and the wounds never really healed. She had held out hope that they could get back together until a surprise announcement forced her to move on from her childhood Love. She convinces herself to move on and ends up meeting Landon. An incredibly sexy carpenter who treats her like gold and falls for her quickly. With Gabe set to marry Alicia, a woman Violet can't stand, she tries desperately to find out the truth about this woman before Gabe makes a mistake he can't take back. This was a book I won't soon forget because it had me frustrated and torn through most of the story. Seeing how Gabe and Violet grew up together makes your heart melt for him and you WANT them to be together and root for Alicia to be kicked to the curb. Then when you don't expect it Landon comes in to the picture and completely shakes things up. It's almost like a love triangle and usually I hate love triangles but this worked for me. While I still loved Landon and hoped briefly it worked out for them, I just couldn't stop myself from wanting Gabe to be with Violet. Whenever Vi tried to tell him the reason for the misunderstanding they would get interrupted and I would beat my fist against my desk at work and scream "COME ON!" I was so frustrated and it didn't change until like 87% into the book. The angst is palpable and becomes a living organism that feels like it could climb out of your chest and be your constant companion. Violet was a beautiful character. She had flaws and emotional baggage you start to understand as you get to know her. I figured out the big secret pretty early on and that usually deflates the balloon for me but with this book it just made me that much more excited to continue reading because I knew that if it just came out everyone could go back to normal. I love that the story was told from Violet's point of view, it really gives you insight into the emotional turmoil she goes through from past to present day. The journal entries before each chapter were a great way to get some back story without having to drag the story down during the good parts. I absolutely loved Violet. She is curvy and funny and spunky and with her two roommates whom you get to see quite a bit of in the story, you are not only provided with much need comic relief but you get to see the support group Vi has in these girls. As for Gabe, I loved him then I didn't like him so much, but then I started loving him again. You are taken on this journey and begin to feel the emotions towards him the main character feels. It feels like it is happening to you as you read along. I couldn't put this book down and loved every pulse pounding, frustrating, anger management class inducing minute. The epilogue is a wonderful treat as it closes out this beautiful story from Gabe's POV that will have you misty eyed and unable to forget the story. I fell hard for this story, so much so that when it was over I cried. Not because it was sad, but because I was sad it was over. I moped for days being in a state in between being happy I read such a wonderful story and melancholy that it was over. I was pitiful and I am so glad nobody saw me like that. I adore stories about childhood sweethearts falling in love so naturally Keeping Secrets was right up my alley! My hope is that you grab a copy and get lost in the story like I did and fall in love with this beautiful couple!

Though I didn't feel much of a connection between Gabe and Viole

Though I didn't feel much of a connection between Gabe and Violet, I really felt a connection with Violet herself. She's a real heroine with strengths and weaknesses and she's not perfect and that's ok. I loved her friends and her style. She really did throw the most epic bachelor party ever.

There is a particular deep issue in this book and I'm so so so glad ms. moss didn't give the "a new penis fixes everything" treatment so many romance novels use these days. It was treated with honesty and the characters' reactions to it were believable and real, not clean or easy.

Now.... someone tell me where Landon is so we can go camping together!! ;-)

Friends to lovers story that will tug at your heart strings.

Violet has been in love with Gabe ever since she can remember. They tried their hand at dating but it failed horribly. After a while they went back to being best friends and have been ever since. She has had to watch as Gabe dated woman after woman and now that he let her know that he was single again, she is determined to let him know that she never stopped loving him. However, on the day she sets out to do this Gabe announces his engagement to Alicia. As you can imagine, she is heartbroken, but decides to move on with her life now that she is certain that Gabe is over her.

This is a a sweet, but heart wrenching story of true love and second chances. The author, Brooke Moss, did a wonderful job of bringing Gabe's and Violet's friendship to the page while giving us glimpses into that truly tore them apart when they tried their hand at dating. Little by little we get to know each of these characters, main and secondary both, letting the reader connect to them on a deeper level.

I enjoyed the easy manner in which Gabe and Violet related to each other. Their affection for each other was easily palpable and later on their chemistry was just as undeniable. Their bond goes deeper than that of friends and it is that bond that is threatened when Gabe gets engaged with Alicia. Through the years Violet and Gabe had stayed close - confiding in each other and spending time together. But as soon as his engagement is announced Gabe drifts away from her and this not only hurts Violet but also raises her suspicions about Alicia.

Hidden beneath all of Violet's tattoos, hair color and vintage clothing is a secret that she has kept to herself for ten years. It's the very secret that could bring them closer and forever tear them apart. Although Violet has managed to stash it away and move on with her life, it keeps haunting her until she decides to let it out.

Flowing through emotional moments and humorous dialog, Brooke Moss' writing was engaging and heartfelt. From the journal entries flashbacks through to the confrontation between Gabe and Violet all through the epilogue, every event the author set in place added to my enjoyment of the story. I laughed out loud at Violet's antics, cried along with Violet's heartbreak and sighed with each tender moment written.

Keeping Secrets in Seattle is a friends to lovers story that will tug at your heart strings with an overflowing range of emotions, humor and great characters. This is he first book I've read by this author, but her characterization and her ability to make me relate and connect to Gabe and Violet impressed me, so I will certainly be looking for more from her.

I received this title from Entangled Publishing through NetGalley in exchange of my honest opinion.

Cute Solid Romance about Childhood Friends

Keeping Secrets in Seattle by Brooke Moss was a cute romantic novel about childhood best friends.  This novel was different than most of the modern romantic stories out there.  This novel showed how a lot of times life gets in the way of love especially when bad things have happened to one or both of the party.

Violet Murphy had been best friends with Gabe Parker since kindergarten when they met on the playground.  Their families lived next door to each other and Violet was a part of Gabe’s family.  His parents were like her second family.  Violet had always been in love with Gabe.  When they were in high school they dated for a very short time before Gabe caught her cheating with his friend, Cameron.  Did he really see what he thought he saw though?  Violet had been keeping the secret of what really happened that night for nine years.  When Gabe tells her that he is engaged to a woman that Violet couldn’t stand, Violet is heartbroken because she never got to tell Gabe how she really felt.  Now is the time to tell him all her secrets!  But will she be able to and will he listen to her?  Will they ever both admit their love for each other or will they both marry different people?  Everyone moves on from their childhood friends right?

I thought this was a cute storyline with some hard hitting facts.  I enjoyed how each chapter started out with a snippet from her journals, which gave you a glimpse of what happened in the past.  I would give Keeping Secrets in Seattle a 3 out of 5 stars.  I would recommend this story to anyone that likes a good solid romance.

Keeping Secrets in Seattle was a very cute and quick read. The main character Violet reminded me a lot of me. She was quirky, spunky and different than most people. She had a lot of tattoos and funky hair. She has kept a secret most of her life. The secret was given to the reader in short journal entries at the start of each chapter. It was a great way to mix the past with the present. The author did a great job in blending the past with the present.

Violet tries to get her best friend out of her mind when she finds out he’s marrying a woman she doesn’t like. Another man that is quite frankly perfect for her does not seem to be able to cut it for Violet. She still pines over Gabe.

The storyline is a cute one where Violet is in love with her best friend for years. She does not tell him because she does not think he returns the feelings she has for him. To get to follow Violet as she tries to find fault with Gabe’s fiance in order to break them up. She wants Gabe for herself and it seems she will go to any length to do so. She enlists her room mates to help her scheme and plan the fiance’s demise.

The ending is very sweet and the perfect HEA. I really liked the epilogue and how it was done from Gabe’s point of view.

5 Amazing Angsty Stars! Unexpected, Beautiful and Touching ! A P

    5 Amazing Angsty Stars!
Unexpected, Beautiful and Touching ! A Perfect Afternoon Read…

    The Review:
I never expected to enjoy Keeping Secrets In Seattle as much as I did. I literally stayed huddled in my reading chair from the first sentence, until I hit the last page! Brooke Moss has stolen my heart with this book. She does a perfect job of pairing fun, interesting characters with dramatic, realistic story telling. She definitely has a new fan!

Violet Murphy has been in love with Gabe Parker since she was six years old. She became a part of his life, a part of his family and even he knew from the moment he saw her in the playground at school that he would love her forever. Deciding the time was right, they decided to date when they turned sixteen but on the first night of their official dating relationship, something goes horribly wrong and it fractured their relationship forever. Violet has a secret… Gabe is confused and angry…

After a bit of time and trusting each other a little less, they are determined to still maintain their best friend status, both trying to get past that night and move on. There’s only one problem. Violet still loves him to the bottom of her heart. Continuing to be best friends, Violet sits back and watches him year after year, float through relationships, always there to pick up the pieces while secretly wanting his arms around her.

Thinking the timing might be right to try once more and after a little prodding from her roommates, she decides to confess her feelings to Gabe. But instead he announces he’s engaged and getting married. Things start to crumble, Violet’s heart is broken and she decides she needs to get on with her life. She meets the incredibly sexy, lovable Landon at a dance bar one night and sparks immediately fly. But her love for Gabe just refuses to let her move on.

I loved this sorted quartet. Gabe is engaged to the detestable Alicia but he’s still in love with Violet. Violet decided to move on with Landon but she’s still in love with Gabe. There are a lot of feelings involved with these characters. You can feel the anxiety and tension flowing off the pages. There were moments when I was sure Violet should end her torture over Gabe and just move on with Landon but at the same time, I was as confused as she was because Gabe was so right for her.

Who does she choose? You’ll just have to read the book and find out!

I have to mention the roommates, Betsy and Kim, who couldn’t be better friends to Violet. Their spunky friendship was a pleasure to witness and their never wavering belief in good things for Violet made them the perfect foundation she needed during this whole story line.

    The Wrap Up:
I was enamored with this book from start to finish. I loved the story. It was tragic, emotional, beautiful and best of all, it was romantic! Both Gabe and Landon were amazing guys and it was nerve-racking watching Violet agonize over them but it was also entertaining and sweet. Once her secret is unveiled, you understand a lot of why she is the way she is and why she made the decisions she made. The characters were fun and interesting and I found myself rooting for everyone to get the ending they deserved. Everything about this book was amazing! It’s a definite re-read!

I loved this book! It's so heartbreakingly wonderful. I knew after reading what the book was about, I'd have some pissed off moments, but I was willing to give it a go. The main character Vi, has been in love with her childhood best friend Gabe since kindergarten. When he announces he's engaged to another woman, a woman who is nothing like Vi, her heart breaks. Vi tries to close off her feelings, and be there for her best friend, even when she knows who he's marrying is so wrong for him. In comes sexy Landon who Vi meets at a dance club. He seems perfect for Vi, but can she forget her love for Gabe? Gabe who has had years to be with Vi, and hasn't taken the chance. Gabe who is engaged to another woman. How the story works out, I really felt for Vi. Vi is a strong, wonderful character. Gabe's ignorance pisses me off. I just wanted him to wake the hell up! All in all, the feeling I had after reading this book was one of happiness. I'm glad it turned out the way it did. If you like charming romances, with great characters, read Keeping Secrets in Seattle. Brooke Moss built a wonderful world, and wonderful characters. I will be reading much more from Brooke Moss! This book is a definite read!

    Great, Fast read!

Have you ever picked up a book thinking you knew what you were getting? Keeping Secrets in Seattle seemed like another light, contemporary romance, but - It. Was. So. Much. More. Quirky Violet Murphy and conservative executive Gabe Parker have been best friends and most probably in love, since they were six. In their teens, they even tried dating, but something terrible happened that destroyed their budding romance and almost cost them their 'best friendship.' A secret that Violet refused to ever discuss has been between them for nine years, but Gabe is still her only love. When Gabe announces his engagement to Violet's polar opposite, she is crushed and positive his new love is using him. How can Violet go on carrying her torch for Gabe when he belongs to another? Can Landon replace Gabe in her heart?

By using excerpts from Violet's journals, which bare her heart and soul, as well as what happened so long ago as the beginning of each chapter, Brooke Moss has created a heart wrenching story threaded through the lighter moments with a cast of characters that you feel you can believe are real, one way or another. Would I recommend this to others? You betcha!

I received this ARC Book from the author for a truthful review.

I don't know where to start. I loved this book to the point I was unable to put it down. I went to bed late after reading over half in one night AND getting up extra early to finish it the next day. While reading this book I was soooo conflicted for Vi. I know she loves Gabe but but but he loves a total mega, fake, phoney beeotch Alicia. Vi has loved him since she has known Gabe which is since Kindergarten. You get the feeling Gabe has some "feelings" for Vi but he isn't ready to admit them???? Anyway Vi finally meets an amazing guy (on paper) and Landon does a great job being her distraction. I was really torn...do I want Vi to move the heck on with Landon because he adores her and would be an amazing husband or does she risk everything to try and be with Gabe....seriously I think I was developing an ulcer.....I really didn't know what I wanted to happen at the end. I mean Gabe is GABE but Landon is LANDON........I know I am rambling and you people are like "So what the hell buy the book or not?" Trust me...BUY THE BOOK. I can't really talk about the story because if I do I will totally give away all the amazing excitement/stress/tension/ etc of the story.

My favorite scene was Gabe's bachelor party. I loved how well Vi knows this man. My least favorite scene was when Gabe announces his engagement. I thought it was pretty douchey of him to not share this news with his "best friend". I have to mention any scene with Vi's roommates are hilarious. They definitely show Vi what true friends are and support her like a real life friend would. Do they agree with her choices? Not all the time BUT they are there when she needs them no matter what. That is the definition of a good friend. Now Cameron...Cameron....Cameron.....Cameron.....lets just say I believe you will understand my reluctance to speak about him but YEAH GABE!!! Wanna know what the hell I am talking about? Read the book!!!

Ok so I know alot of people hate epilogues but I love them. To me they can complete a story and let you in on the HEA. This was a great epilogue and we even get a peek at what has happened to everyone....Cameron, Gabe, Vi, And Alicia.........

So glad I got to read Brooke Moss' Keeping Secrets in Seattle. And what a treat this story was!

I am a huge fan of Friends to Lovers stories. This one did not disappoint. Violet and Gabe have known each other since childhood. Somewhere in-between they fell in love (adorable) but something happened to pull them apart.

In later years they still kept in-touch, met up and managed to stay friends. Even though the flame was still burning. Too bad Gabe was about to get married.

This story was oh-my-gosh romantic, made me laugh, tear up and sigh. I could feel Gabe and Violet's conflict, desperation and love. One thing I really enjoyed is how Brooke Moss started each chapter with an entry of Violet's diary while she was still in high school. Eventually we got to find out what really happened to break Vi and Gabe up. Wow.

This is a a wonderful romantic story. I didn't want to stop reading this, until I'd peeled the layers and met the real Violet and Gabe.

Could we have Landon's story please Ms. Moss?

    One of my favourite quotes:

He leaned away from me enough to gaze down into my eyes. "My place is with you. I don't care where that is. If you're there, it's my home, Vi."

    Ah. Absolutely Perfect

Keeping Secretes in Seattle’s quirky, sweet characters had me from the first paragraph.  Readers will love the strong, resilient heroine and the "love at first sight" theme.  This well written romance with a twist will make for a good weekend read.

Violet Murphy, a quirky hairstylist, has just found out that her best friend, Gabe Parker, is getting married to "Ms. Prefect".  To top it off, he wants her to be his best man.  Violet meets hot motorcycle man , Landon, and quickly starts a relationship while secretly in love with Gabe.  With secretes haunting her will Vi stay with Landon or risk everything for her best friend?

In this book the story line is: girl loves best friend but said best friend has just proposed to his girlfriend and now girl thinks it might be too late to ever be with the one man she loves. Does this plot sound familiar? Probably because we have all seen it before in chick flicks and romance novels. I will give this the author her due because even with the same old plot the the story line is executed well because this ended up being a fast paced and enjoyable read.

Underneath what sounds like a flighty story line there is depth. The heroine, Violet, is hiding a nine year old secret that will shake everyone she knows to the core. Meanwhile, there is more than meets the eye to her best friend's fiance and she might be a gold digger just waiting to trade up and it is up to Violet to find out. Also, Violet must decide if running away easier than fighting for the man she loves.

I liked this story more than I thought I would even though I thought the ending was a bit cheesy the epilogue was a nice touch. I liked how when all the secrets were revealed and everything came out in the open it felt real how the characters dealt with the fallout. Gabe and Violet didn't automatically fall right into each other's arms and live happily ever after. No they needed to time and space to deal with the hurt and then find a way back into each other's arms because a secret like the one Violet is carrying around doesn't just go away and it doesn't heal overnight. I give this story four laser pistols because it was a quick and easy read filled with depth and emotion and sometimes I just like a good chick lit kind of story.
