Overview

“Wild, witty, and wonderful.”  --New York Times bestselling author Jo Goodman

In this warm and witty new series, author Sarah Title introduces readers to the down home Kentucky hospitality of the Carson family and their Wild Rose Farm and Stables. It’s a place where love is always possible—and sweeter than ever the second time around…

Mallory Thompson and Keith Carson are far from impressed with each other when she arrives at his family’s horse farm, fleeing an abusive marriage. Mallory sees nothing but a gruff man who’s as patronizing as her soon-to-be ex-husband, and Keith has no time for a city girl who’s afraid of dogs. But the struggling Wild Rose is too small to allow anyone to keep their distance…

As one by one, Mallory wins the hearts of his family, from his cranky father to his headstrong younger sister and three-legged dog, Keith finds himself more than a little attracted to her stubborn charm. And the longer Mallory stays, the more she realizes Keith is nothing like the overbearing bully she married—and the more she fantasizes about being in his strong, loving arms. Maybe some folks get a second chance to make a first impression after all…

Library Journal
Mallory Thompson is fed up with being the wife of a prominent physician in Washington, DC, especially after he gives her a black eye when he finds her making plans to leave him—even though one of his nurses is upstairs in their bed! Mallory turns for help to Luke Carson, bartender and man about town. Luke’s bright idea is to take Mal to his home in rural Kentucky, the Wild Rose Farm and Stables, and present her to his family as his fiancée while Mal decides what her next step will be. The Wild Rose is inhabited by Luke’s father, Cal, a cranky horseman reluctant to make changes to his business; Luke’s eldest brother, Keith, who is still grieving the loss of his wife and child in a terrible accident; his headstrong younger sister, Katie; longtime housekeeper Libby; and a three-legged dog named Peanut. While city girl Mal works hard to fit into a very different way of life on the Wild Rose, she finds herself falling in love with the land, the Carson family, Peanut, and, most of all, prickly widower Keith. When Mal’s husband comes looking for her and is determined to take her back to Washington, Mal realizes that there is nothing for her in DC and that she has found a new home in Kentucky.

Verdict The first entry in Title’s “Southern Comfort” series introduces us to the Carson clan and the Wild Rose. Mal and Keith get off to a rough start, but things soon heat up in the bunkhouse as Keith gets to know Mal, and her bright smile and sunny disposition make it impossible for him to hold onto his gruff manner and his grief. This reviewer is eager to find out what’s next for the Carson family!—Lisa M. Jordan, Johnson Cty. Lib., Gardner Neighborhood Lib., KS

Mallory Thompson is escaping an abusive marriage and her good friend Luke Carson has the perfect plan. He is brought her home as his fake fiancé, but right after he drops her off he leaves. This left Mallory, city girl, on a horse farm with unfamiliar people and an uncomfortable lie to sustain.

Keith Carson had the love of his life and she was killed in a car accident. He hasn’t given another woman the time of day until Mallory drops into his life. Unfortunately, she is his brother’s fiancé. Drawn by Mallory’s joy at experiencing life, he can’t help but feel conflicted by his emotions towards Mallory.

This is a story about second chances, rebuilding your life and living it to its fullest. It is a heartwarming and tender story that was fun and touching to read. I read this book rather quickly, but really enjoyed the emotional growth of the characters. A pleasant read for a cozy afternoon, Kentucky Home is the perfect book to curl up with and relax into the story.

This ARC copy of Kentucky Home was given to me by Kensington Publishing in exchange for a honest review. This book is scheduled for publication on April 18, 2013.

    A better than most romance

This well edited, romance is over 300 pages long. It is also pretty good. I usually do not care for romance books. Too mushy and predictable. I think young woman expect relationships to be like these books, all drama and lust, one crisis after another, beautiful people, plenty of money, fun and games, thn to find out life is not like that, is a shock, often leading to depression or worse and divorce. Once in a while, I need an escape from my usual fare of mystery and suspence, and true life books, so I read a romance, I am almost always disappointed, but about one book in a hundred impresses me and this book was one of those. A chick book for mature readers, due to some rather steamy sex.

    Liked It!

A nice story of love lost and love found... Author tells a good story and her multiple characters fit together to make an interesting puzzle... I enjoyed the book and would recommend... A novella follows as Book 2 entitled Kentucky Christmas... A cute 60 page Christmas romance.. This book is worth the read...

A great love story and a quick read. This is a great intro into the series and the author does a good job of expressing the characters and their personalities.

    Very good

Excellent for the beginning of a series. Get right into some very important topic of wife abuse, but shows that a woman can get back onto her feet with the right help and some people who really want to help. Can't wait to get into the next book in the series.

    Farrah and Tobias

They watch Reba wondering if she is a pig, or a dog, cat, wolf human. Farrah steped his paw forward stepping on a tree branch making a noise. Tobias ears prick up and he watches.
