Polly Winkler lives in a creepy, run down mansion with her father Dr. Winkler, her sister Joy, her brother Petey, her stepsister Esme Kreep, her stepbrothers Vincent and Damon Kreep, and her stepmother Veronica Kreep—who just happens to be a witch. Everyone in the family seems to have a special talent except Polly, so she decides to try out for a local, recreational soccer team with her friend Mike. At first, Polly makes all kinds of mistakes, but when Veronica starts showing up Polly becomes the star of the team. The ball is drawn to her almost magnetically and her goal kicks seem to bend around defenders as if the ball had a mind of its own. Polly is really happy about the attention she is getting from her teammates—until she thinks about how unlikely her shots are. And she notices how much fun her stepmother is having at the games and how Polly plays so much better when Veronica is there. Could Veronica be using magic? And is this a bad thing? After all, if Polly plays well her teammates are friendly to her and her family is proud of her. But at one game Veronica takes Joy to her cheerleading performance and Polly can do nothing right. Her coach pulls Polly from the game. But the game is tied and the team needs to score in overtime to win. Polly sees Veronica and the rest of the family come, so she asks the coach to let her take the kick. The kick slams into the goal net. Her team wins! Polly thinks Veronica made the kick go in, but her stepmother assures her she did it all on her own. Her dad is proud of her for sticking it out when things were not going well. A cute addition to the "Kreeps" series. Reviewer: Sarah Maury Swan
