Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 3-5-A multicultural cookbook with little depth or detail. The 35 recipes from 23 countries are illustrated with lighthearted, stereotypical cartoons- hearts and reindeer for Scandinavia, tulips and windmills for the Netherlands, etc. The recipes themselves are sketchy. For example, the directions for smorrebrod, Danish open sandwiches, tell readers to find pt and other toppings and give specific instructions only for the garnishes. Directions to cut and chop neglect to specify size. The book suggests that cookies can be decorated with confectioners' sugar mixed with ``a little water''-not helpful to inexperienced cooks. And apple juice in the Swiss fondue? The cluttered layout matches the slapdash contents. The ``Easy Menu Ethnic Cookbooks'' series (Lerner) gives authentic and more complete information about a country and its people, food, and recipes.-Carolyn Jenks, First Parish Unitarian Church, Portland, ME
