Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The trucks and the sport have been around for nearly thirty-five years. The first monster trucks were modified pickup trucks built in 1975. One such truck was called "Bigfoot." These strange vehicles with oversized tires performed in arenas and on open tracks; and, often included competitions such as tug-of-war and racing. The parts used on these trucks often came from vehicles that were designed for other purposes such as construction work and they use engines that were designed for drag racing. There is even an association, Monster Truck Racing Association (MTRA), which certifies drivers. In this sport kids can get to know the drivers and look closely at the monster trucks at pit parties which are held before the racing event starts. The pictures of the cars will intrigue any young reader—some with fearsome faces, arms embracing the hood, and other modifications that you have to see the pictures to believe. The book ends with a glossary, reasonably recent titles to read, Internet sites and an index. Part of the "Edge" series. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
