All Music Guide - Heather Phares
American Juniors: Kids in America collects performances from the Top Ten finalists from the preteen version of American Idol, plus two songs that feature the singers as a vocal group. The single, "One Step Closer," is a lightweight but fun, disco-influenced song that is arguably more fun than the singles that the American Idol winners and runners-up issued before their full albums came out. Their version of the new wave staple "Kids in America," meanwhile, misses all the subtexts of the original, but it's still reasonably entertaining. Unlike American Idol proper, in which there is only one official winner, American Juniors picks the top five singers to form a vocal quintet. The show's top five -- Tori Thompson, Taylor Thompson, Chauncey Matthews, Morgan Burke, and Lucy Hale -- occupy most of the first half of the album. Hale's "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" shows that she has a surprisingly rich and mature voice; at times she sounds like a pint-size Kelly Clarkson. Burke's "Build Me Up, Buttercup" shows off his sweetly soulful pipes, while Tori Thompson's "Let 'Er Rip" brings some country twang to the album. Her sister, Taylor Thompson, has a like-minded approach on "Proud Mary," but her voice is higher and brighter. Matthews' delicate "A Whole New World" emphasizes just how young he is, but also suggests that he could have a powerful voice once he matures. Just as the second season of American Idol marked a vast improvement in the quality of contestants since its debut, American Juniors: Kids in America reflects how consistently good the American Juniors finalists were; in fact, Katelyn Tarver's "I'll Never Fall in Love Again," and Chantel Kohl's "Open Arms" are so poised that they don't really sound like the work of kids. That's both a good and a bad thing -- along with Matthews, the only American Juniors that sound like real kids are Jordan McCoy, A.J. Melendez, and Danielle White. Still, a prepackaged sound is nothing new when it comes to the American Idol franchise, but for the most part American Juniors: Kids in America manages to sound polished instead of slick.

    U guys R great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys are great! I think you are the most greatest singers that are children! If I could meet you guys that would be awesome! I wish I could be on American Juniors. On my cruise I went on, I brought my American Juniors cd. For the talent show, I sang, "More Than Yesterday," by Jordon Mcoy. Anyways, everybody was clapping and singing along. I felt so good! They especially liked the long hold at the end of the song. Everybody thought I was great!!!! (A secret is my friend likes Chauncey!)

Best CD you could get for your child

Hi, I'm a proud parent of four kids who adore the american junior Cd. I also think it's a great CD and knowing there's a CD out there that kids could actually listen to without any swear words is great! It's truely a great CD, and my children look up to the American Juniors as role models hoping that someday they'll be a singer like them. My kids really like Tori Thompson's song let'r'rip as well as Chauncey Mathew's A whole new world song. I myself enjoy listening to the CD while working around the house!

    Star Search? Not Exactly...

We watched the show, we voted on our cell phones and chose this group. Kinda like a mini American Idol and just another Star Stearch project but still-Something we chose to watch. Taylor, Tori, Chauncey, Lucy and Danielle were lucky enough to be the band and the rest of them were talented too. "Open Arms", "Colors of the Wind", "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" and "One Step Closer" are my favorites though each song is equally good. So basically, just go out and by the CD despite however you felt about the show and you won't be disappointed.

    These kids are AWESOME!

I think this CD is AWESOME! All the kids have an amazing talent and will go so far in life. They all deserve to be in that group. I love the juniors and these kids are our future stars! These kids show you that you don't have to sing like Kelly Clarkson or Clay Aiken to be a good singer. Everyone should buy this CD!

The show rocked and the CD totally rocks, too!!:)

Ok, track 6 "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" by Katelyn Tarver is the best track. Jordan McCoy, Tori Thompson, Danielle White, and all ten of them on the song "One Step Closer" are REALLY COOL, also! The CD is way worth buying and I totally recommend!
