Kidz Bop, Vol. 3

Barnes & Noble - Beth Amos
The runaway success of Kidz Bop and Kidz Bop 2 -- which offered up kid-sung versions of hits like Ricky Martin's "Livin' la Vida Loca" and Pink's "Get the Party Started" -- will come as no surprise to any parent with a radio. Children of all ages love to sing along to their favorite hit songs, and Kidz Bop's youthful singers have a magnetic appeal to their peers. This third installment in the popular series offers more familiar fare delivered with a 'tween-savvy edge. Hits by Sheryl Crow ("Soak Up the Sun"), 'N Sync ("Girlfriend"), Pink ("Don't Let Me Get Me"), and Michelle Branch ("All You Wanted") will be immediate favorites for some at-home karaoke. There's also "Complicated," which sticks close to Avril Lavigne's guitar-driven original, and a piano-driven version of Chad Kroeger's Spiderman hit "Hero." Young vocalists will get a workout on the Usher hit "U Don't Have to Call" and American Idol Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment like This." But when it's time to get some feet moving, the kids will want to cue up the sassy take on No Doubt's hip-hop-flavored "Hey Baby," a sweat-generating version of Shakira's "Whenever, Wherever," or the playful R&B sounds of Nelly's "Dilemma." Throughout, the lyrics are easily understood (and altered at times to make racy originals a bit more kid-friendly), and the occasionally off-key but always enthusiastic singing of the Kidz Bop Kids makes singing along not only encouraged but irresistible.
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Kidz Bop, Vol. 3 collects more remakes of current pop hits with a group of kids singing along on the choruses. As with the previous Kidz Bop volumes, this approach offers as many moments of surreality as it does whimsical fun; hearing children sing along to lyrics like "Soak Up the Sun"'s "My friend the communist/holds meetings in his RV" doesn't really make the songs more kid-friendly, and on songs like "Hey Baby" it gets irritating quickly. Not surprisingly, the covers of more youthful artists' songs are among the best; Avril Lavigne's "Complicated" and Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" are the closest this collection comes to appropriate singalongs for kids. Even with the rise of young pop singers that don't try look or sound several times their age, the current pop music scene just doesn't feature that many songs that work with kids' voices; the versions of "Alive," "Dilemma," "Happy," and "Hero" included here are cases in point. For the most part, the original versions of these songs aren't especially racy, and all of them sound better than these covers, but families who want a relatively hip collection of music to listen to could do worse than this album.

They ruined all the songs, most of all Soak Up the Sun

Everyone who is in Kids Bop is just a big fat wanna be of the orginal artist. They act so incredibly stupid on the commercials. Kids Bop reeks. Don't waste your money on this terrible junk-buy the orginal instead. They are actully famed and well liked! Soak up the Sun is a wonderful, fun song, so why does Kidz Bop have to ruin it? PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY, DO NOT WASTE!

    A excelent CD

I listen to it all of the time, I enjoy it, it has all of the songs I like on it so I don't have to by 20 CD just for one song. Some CD's cost $10 for one CD, and that can be a waste of money for one song but if you get this CD you will like it, and I like to have little space used and not have to keep switching CD's/songs.

    Again?

Ok, I'd like to start by saying, why? I mean 2 of these CDs are bad enough, but 3?? I REALLY gotta find out what these people think. One of the biggest tradigies on the CD is what they did to 'In The End'. Please, just get Linkin Park's CD if you want this song... trust me, it'll be a lot better then this CD, THAT'S for sure...

    Great CD for young kids

My five year old daughter plays the Kids Bop CD'S constantly and while it drives me nuts I'm glad she is enjoying them. I have bought her much more expensive toys that she never plays with.
